Made for hiking, trail running, fastpacking, and more, Altra’s popular Olympus shoe returns—now with a reinforced upper for enhanced strength and blowout prevention. Featuring abrasion-resistant mesh with minimal seams, the upper is now better equipped to deal with rough terrain. The midsole has an A-Bound bottom layer that adds spring to each step and an EVA top layer that absorbs vibration and shock. The 33-millimeter stack height runs evenly from front to back, while the 5-millimeter drop gives the shoe a near-flat feel. The Trailclaw canted lugs and Vibram’s MegaGrip outsole work together to enhance traction during steep uphill climbs and downhill descents, all while keeping weight down for a faster, more comfortable ride. And like every Altra shoe, the Olympus has a FootShape toe box to provide stability and encourage proper toe splay and running form.
Altra was born in the back room of a Wasatch Mountains running store, where owner Golden Harper met countless runners who complained of knee pain, shin splints, and other injuries from traditional pointed toe boxes and thick, heavy heels. A competitive runner himself, Golden began experimenting with shoe alterations to solve his customers’ problems. By melting the outsoles (in his trusty toaster oven!), he was able to remove the excess heel elevation for a more natural, relaxed foot position. The new platform design was dubbed Zero Drop.
