ADT256Enjoyable, but a polar opposite to the ath-wp900. Light on bass, with an ability to scale with the amp. These are my "go to" for closed back at my desk, usually beating out an lcd-xc because it's lighter and more enjoyable over a long period. They are often second choice to my fostex th-909, because those are just more fun. They work well in a collection.
avoidworkI've been debating between this and Denon D9200. I want to see what the "Audio Technica Treble" is all about regarding female vocal and string instruments. But I'm a bit worried about the lack of bass hence I'm also considering the D9200.
My current daily driver is Denon D2000, recently got a TH900 but find it too bassy and not enough mids for my taste (vocal recessed).
Would you recommend I try AWAS anyway or safer to go with D9200? Music I listen to these days are mostly acoustic music but from time to time I do listen to rock and pop. Thanks!
Hyde@Hyde the AWAS will hit their potential with the right amp; will it be the sound you’re after? really hard to say - the DAC will factor a bit, as you will be able to hear the differences.
The bass is significantly lightly than the th900 - apples to oranges really, but the treble can be a problem with different gear; never really enjoyed mine until I got this amp (AT-BHA100).
I've found it works best on class A amps, or tubes/hybrid tubes. It's bland on THX amps.
avoidworkAh got it, so AWAS sounds the best with Audio Technica's own hybrid tube amp lol (AT-BHA100). I guess it makes sense maybe it was tuned with that amp to begin with.
It also sounds like maybe it just likes warmer sources. THX amps is known to be very lean.
At this point maybe for my taste D9200 might be a safer choice lol.
Thank you for the explanations!
