Available on Massdrop before anywhere else, this first production run of the Bestech Knives 1706 is available in two distinct colorways and crafted from premium materials. It features a 3.7-inch modified tanto blade (like an icicle of sorts) that excels in piercing and slicing—and it takes a great edge thanks to its CPM-S35VN construction, which is arguably the best commercial blade steel on the market. Although the blade is impressive, the handle could be the standout. Made from a combination of titanium and carbon fiber, it’s sturdy, lightweight, and easy on the eyes. A built-in frame lock secures the blade, which opens via the flipper. The pocket clip, done in a similar shape to the blade, offers tip up carry for righties.

Developed by Crucible Industries (one of the leading manufacturers of specialty steels for the cutlery industry) and Chris Reeve (arguably the most famous knifemaker in the world), S35VN is perhaps the most balanced blade steel ever created in terms of all-around performance. It’s made through a process of powdered metallurgy known as CPM, which results in near perfect consistency in the distribution of carbides. Compared to conventional melting practices, the CPM process produces a steel characterized by superior dimensional stability, grindability, and toughness.
