wow. thats a hefty premium for most countries that can get these for way cheap from pretty much anyone else.....
But I digress, the reason I am writing this message wasn't just to join in with the angry mob, but to also retell the story that I actually just told in the Pro Plus thread.
Beyerdynamics Headphones look and feel terrible on big heads! I'm 7-5/8US hat size. the 990s I had hurt like hell after just a few minutes of use. The extensions had to be pulled all the way to the end to fit my head. The pinching and pressure on the top of my head were just too much and I had to return them. Could have looked past how silly they looked on me if they didnt hurt.
I find it odd that no one on the internet has complained about this before. I cant be the only headphone fan with a large head...can I? :(
eneroI have the 990 pro and I love the velour earpads. I've probably worn these headphones for 4-6 hours straight, something I've never done before with headphones. Leather earpads are uncomfortable for me since I sweat a lot, and it definitely builds up with moisture within a matter of 30 minutes. I think I wear the same hat size as you (7 5/8), and my 990 Pros have never been an issue.
These are the most comfortable headphones I've worn. I think they're worth $200, I know you can find them for cheaper, and I bought mine off of Craigslist for $100 (and now that I actually take a look at it, they do look a little silly). Most reviewers I've read/watched say these headphones are very comfortable, so you might belong to a small group of people that feel the same way as you.
AlexBuysThingsyeah I think my head is wider on the sides than front to back or something. The pads felt amazing, so silky soft! But it was the band that did all the hurting!
eneroThe premiums have velour earpads and less clamp force. The Pros are definitely uncomfortable. They do that on purpose, that's why the premiums are more expensive. The sound is better on the 600 ohm premium, but the real big difference is the comfort and build quality. This is a solid drop for the price actually for the premiums.
I paid $220 for mine awhile back. I wouldn't buy them again, but I don't mind them at that price. They're good for gaming, action movies, and rock music.
Panzer17I had the pros as well. Like I said, I guess I have a wide head! I paid $120 (on sale from $150)for mine on one of those major tech sites. Would have been worth every penny if it werent for my head...* https://www.sadtrombone.com/ *
eneroI just got a pair of these and they hurt the top of my head too and can barely find anybody saying the same thing- did you manage to find anything at a similar price point that felt good on your head?
rdennis42Sorry to hear that. Its a shame these headphones are so deceptively small. I still look at them longingly when ever I see someone on TV or even walking down the street (Ive seen this twice in the last year!) wearing them. As for other headphones, the ones that I own that sound the closest to these would have to be the AKG K7XX. They're quite similar in sound and price. I find they both have the same subtleness in sound. Very nice for most music. I have many others that I have found to be much better for my needs (all around gaming/music/podcasts). My current favs are the Fostex TR-70 and Audio Technica's ATH-AD700X. Both are pretty mind blowing for gaming, and both have very natural and big sound. And added bonus: both can be had for under $100! only thing about the Fostex's is that you NEED to replace the included pads with something else. Theres a lot of info on them online, check it out if you're curious, or hit me up again if you want to know what I got for them.
