Real semi-custom
I do not play very often with this one, keeping in my collection, but what a finish and execution of machinning works. Hope they will make with M390 steel.

Great knife
Custom quality at a midtech price. Good centering, no blade play, good lockup, razor sharp out of the box. Would buy again.

Great knife by an awesome designer and executed with a great maker
At first, I wasn't so hot on this knife. I'm a pretty detail oriented guy, and I couldn't help but compare this knife to Reate manufactured knives I own at a similar price point and it doesn't have the same exact, crisp details that Reate is capable of. However, after I broke it in, it's become one of my go-to knives. The ergos are great and the drop-shut action is unlike any other knife I own. It's a real hefty knife but I like that it has a substantial in-hand feel. One of the few mid-tech or custom pieces I own, I'm very happy with this knife.

The Rowdy has an excellent detent and drops shut. The handle scales are well machined with a polished stone wash and blue anodized finish. The finish is more intense than average anodized blue which is very nice. Ergonomics are spot on the blade length is perfect for most every day tasks. There is a bit of lock stick but not bad by any means. The only thing I am disappointed in is the blade finish. The stonewash seems a bit dirty and uneven. A shiner stonewash would have fit with the handle scales better. Something similar to the original Spyderco techno. I have no worries about the CPM-154 but for this price point some may want a better steel like M390 or 20CV.

Anybody that's on the fence with this knife, just do it. I purchased mine well over a year ago. TBH, I've moved to full on customs, but this is one of the few mid-tech/production type knives I have left in my collection. The action is absolutely bonkers for a sub $500 knife. I simply love this thing. Great blade shape, and wonderful ergonomics. I think the only other Tashi designs I still have are my A2 M44 and A2 A6 (both $1k+ as configured) and this will give them a run for the money in the action department, or pretty much any knife I own. These are as close to a hand-made/tuned mid-tech as you can get, I just can't say enough good things about it. If you want a knife that you can carry, use, and easily strop back to hair-popping sharpness here it is. The clip ain't the most beautiful thing in the world. But similar to the equally hated Nadeau clip, it works a treat. I have way too many gorgeous milled clips that are borderline useless. This knife begs to be carried, and is one of a handful of "go-to" knives I've got. The blade is very useful in shape. I'm a gigantic fan of full-flat grinds when it comes to users. This is a tall enough blade to come close to that, but still has a bit of a flat for that substantial feel. The swedge gives it a bit of delicacy, which is echoed on the scales. The only other quibble (and that's all it is) is that the back spacer is G10. Honestly, when I think about it, if it were Ti, the knife would be even heavier. I like the full back spacer opposed to standoffs/open design. I went with the black G10, YMMV. Pros:
  • Insane hydraulic action
  • Great ergonomics (I have large hands)
  • Cool Tashi design
  • Excellent clip
  • Good blade shape, thin behind edge and high grind
  • Simple design
Cons
  • Aesthetically short of better Chinese production knives (G10 back spacer, spring-type clip)
  • Low-voltage blue anodizing easily fingerprints
  • A tad heavy
  • Tashi's TV antenna logo billboard on blade
  • Blade spine could use a bit of jimping
Full disclosure: I'm left handed, and wear an XL glove. Bottom line, at the price, you're going to be hard pressed to find a better all-around knife that feels like a true handmade custom. If you've got a bit of coin leftover, I'd recommend buying the plain Ti version, and handing over to somebody like Blades We Love for a high-voltage anodizing combination of your choice (about $40-50). Rating 4.5 rounded to 5 stars. At the original offering price of $500ish, I'd be hard pressed to give it 5 stars. But at Massdrop's sub $400 to your doorstep (what most will pay), it more than gives the recent spate of similarly prices Reate/WE designer collaborations a run for their money. Again, it all comes down to that strange intangible in the action. Reate especially makes world-class knives, with wonderful action. But there's something fluid and linear going on here that makes me think of makers such as Gavko.

This knife is absolutely amazing! If you are looking for perfect action and excellent fit and finish then look no further, this knife has it all. I really can’t say anything bad about it. Maybe the backspacer could be better but that’s really nitpicking. Anyways, I would highly recommend this knife to anyone looking for custom-level features at an affordable price point.

The short review is that this is an incredible quality knife apart from a slight letdown on the pocket clip, and the price you pay here is a significant discount compared to what you pay anywhere else. If you like the look and have the money, then go for it and you will certainly not be disappointed. A more in-depth review follows, but if you need the summary, that was it.
This is an absolutely phenomenally put together knife, with excellent deployment (the best I own even when compared to some similarly priced knives), and a great feel even in my fairly large hand. The blade was sharp out of the box, centering is perfect, and the finish was flawless. All is as you'd hope and expect from the names behind this knife at basically any price. Apart from one minor issue that is actually an issue, and another thing that (to me) is a complete non-issue, it is perfect as an EDC knife.
The minor issue, on the Style 1 at least, is that the texture under the pocket clip makes it a bit difficult to get into or out of the pocket. By which I mean you must pry the clip out away from the handle with a nail or something for it to slide without difficulty into a pocket, and to a lesser extent, you might need to do the same thing to remove it. However, I remove d the clip and carry it in a pocket instead and I prefer it that way. That texture also makes the knife more secure in the grip than you might expect from titanium, which is why I bought that style in the first place, and why the clip is only a minor issue for me. On the other hand, the design/aesthetic of the clip itself is also a bit sub-par compared to the rest of this otherwise beautiful knife regardless of which handle style you get, so I deducted 1 star for the clip overall. The texturing is, in fact, visible in the pictures of lock-side of the knife. If you want to avoid the issue entirely, choose a handle style that has less or no texture - though I wouldn't mind seeing an update to this where the texture is not present directly under where the clip contacts the handle.
Now, on to the non-issue. The grease/oil that was used on this knife has quite a strong, easily detectable scent, even after having had it for a couple of months now. Or I'm assuming that's what it is, not sure what else it could be. This does not bother me, as I mainly use it to break down boxes and such, but I can see it being off-putting to people, especially if they plan to use it on food or something. It's not worth subtracting a star certainly, but I feel I have to mention it as some people are more sensitive or picky about things like that. Some purchasers probably wouldn't even notice it, and some might leave angry/whiny 1 or 2-Star reviews about it being the worst thing in the world, so I'm just putting it out there to get ahead of that. Yes, it is present. No, it is not that bad, especially in the tasks I use the knife for.
