@Massdrop : I just received this knife (in micarta), and the blade is marked as AR-RPM9 steel, not 12C27N as in the description.
(Edited)
csbruunArtisan recently released a new version of the Ria with the AR-RPM9 steel, and it appears they sent that instead of the 12C27N version we advertised in this run. The new one is still heavily protected by their MAP policy so I assume this one slipped through by mistake. If you are unhappy with it please reach out to support for a refund.

kstokleyI'm fine with it. I just wanted to raise it in case the listing needs to be updated.

I was watching David C. Andersen show off the Ria and immediately ordered it from knife center. While flicking my newly received knife I found out I already ordered it many weeks ago from drop when they just recently sent me a shipping confirmation. Grrr!
Shows a pic of micarta, doesn't offer it. Cold...
theupandcomingIt sold out very quickly, but we got more. It is available now!
kstokleyThanks, bought!

I try to place an order but somehow the Green Micarta is not listed in the options. Can someone help or shed some light on why?

Is 12C27N a good steel choice?

it gets a razors edge easily, one of my favorite steels to sharpen. edge retention does really well with wood, but does not hold up well to bricks... dont ask, it wasnt me its not the best choice overall, but for under 40$, it is one of the best stainless steels for the money

BobrazHeat treat and edge geometry plays a big role in cutting performance. I am not an proficient sharpener so this steel works well with me. Edge retention is just long enough to get through the day. Easy to sharpen too.

Hmm...this is actually a significant discount from current pricing online. Am I hallucinating?

I know, but they only released a small batch of AR-RPM9 ones (a couple hundred if I remember correctly). Artisan trying to sell these for a significant discount is telling me that they're getting ready to phase the 12c27 rias out of production and ramping up production of the AR-RPM9 Rias. Another thing to note, the AR-RPM9 Rias only came in Micarta and Shred CF. They might want to start making ones with G10 scales too, but need to get rid of their older product first.

Salvador_FI don't think AR-RPM9 is supposed to be a replacement for 12C27 and D2 though, I think it's going to be an upgrade from those, since they're also using it on less labor intensive but still nice knives like the fixed blade Sea Snake and Cerberus designed Arion folder. I don't see them phasing out the D2/12C27 budget knives in the CJRB line, but they might with the Artisan-branded budget models.
