The good stuff:
- Simple, solid and unique
The bad:
- Switches are glued to a 3d printed foundation located in the center
- A little pricey for the lack of ability to switch out switches unless tampered with
I have both this (SA profile/'Tall') and the other generic/basic model. Main difference between the two types is of course the keycap profile and the switches that are used. And the regular models has different switch combos.
If you're someone who has not tried other switches outside of the realm of cherry mx switches and don't plan on mixing and matching switches, then this and the other model is great (5/5 stars). However, if you dont care about the keycap profile or have spare SA keycaps lying around, I'd go for the other basic model and save some money there.
On the other hand, if you're like me and want to customize the switches whenever you want to especially because you've experience the glorious THICC clicks of the Kailh box navies and jades (or something similar)... then this will annoy you. Not sure what type of glue they used, looked like crazy glue but you will need tools and force with a hint of finesse to pop the switches out (check out the pics on what I used...).
So frustrating it came like this. This is the same with the other regular tester as well. Either this is to prevent you from tampering with it so you will buy more of the same thing with the switches they provide, or who knows, maybe it falls apart when it's not held in place with glue.
But if you check out the pics, I've switched all the switches to half jades and half navies and I have no issues with it coming apart easily. Yes, it comes scratched and scuffed, and the thing could be more polished, but I dont really care about that. What I care about is that it does what its intended to do, and gives me the ability to customize it to the way I want, whenever I want without the risk of breaking it. Especially when you drop 22 dollars for a basic plastic shell that just houses generic cherry mx switches (excluding the price of tax and shipping).
Overall, aside from my biggest gripe about this clickybits fidget tester, I love this thing so much! But my fiance and friends hate me when I play with it... until they've tried it out for themselves lol. I love it. Highly recommended for those who are fidgety and loves mechanical switches to the point where you gotta bring it with ya. Also, totally worth tampering with the integrity of the device, if you have a mechanical switch you love that Clickybits doesnt have. But if Clickybits ever implements change to the problem I have, I'll update this to 5 stars, hands down~~<3
Now then, to post this on reddit...
