Product Description
Featuring an aluminum baseplate and clear PCB keycaps, this combination desk toy and switch tester comes with five Cherry MX switches and one Topre Novatouch module. Traditionally used by gamers for their low activation point and lack of tactile feedback or clicking sound, Black switches offer an actuation force of 60 grams while the Red switches require only 45 Read More

Received mine and managed to open it up with a metal spudger (a tool with a thin flat blade - not sharp - for prying open things). This version is not as desirable if you want to make a macro switch, as there is a raised area for the Topre and you can't fit a Cherry MX into that location.

Yeah, I didn't realize how intricate the Topre switch was. I just assumed it had similar clips as Cherry MX at the bottom. I think doing it like how you have done would be more convenient. :D

OowehYou can get a capacitive touch sensor and put it below the "tope" coiled spring (if it has one, I don't know if it's just the rubber cup)

Can the switches be removed and replaced with 6 of the same switches? Want to use this as a Lightroom specific keypad. Thanks!

I used a paint scraper (spatula) and a screwdriver. It was tough and impossible not to scratch the case. After I got it open I filed the nubs down so that it is easier to open.

Thanks for sharing your work! I've soldered before so that doesn't worry me, but I've never done micro controller programming or loading instructions, so including that as well makes this quite an accessible mod.

I think getting rid of the clear switch was a mistake. Unlike blue/green and red/black, there's an actual difference between the bump in brown and clear switches.
Getting rid of either of the less commonly used green or black switches in favor of the Topre makes more sense imo.

RashkhIt makes sense for Cooler Master to get rid of Clear though, since they don't sell any keyboards with MX Clear.
It is very easy to remove the switch and replace it with another if you want to.

If you guys are thinking "Oh ,it is my chance to try a topre switch " you are going to be disappointed. When I first used my Novatouch, I hated it. After a couple days, I can't even touch something else. This has been said numerous times, always find a board to try on. But it feels like you would imagine, at least that's what happened with me. Thock, beautiful bump and heavenly feel.

NikeluI got my Novatouch without trying Topre at all, and like you said, it's exactly how I imagined it would feel, and it feels amazing. I feel like the Topre is going to be the big draw for this tester.

I wonder whether the Topre tester is accurate without the rubber-dome
Also, it says PCB keycaps, which makes you wish this includes an actual PCB

KaanWhat makes you think one single dome isn't given, you just can't see it.

KaanI bought one of these the last time they were on Massdrop, and it has a whole Novatouch housing, from the conical spring up.
Also, the bit about PCB keycaps should just be PC (polycarbonate) keycaps, as stated in the specs at the bottom.

This is $1.74 more expensive than on the producer's website because Cooler Master offers free shipping.

IndrasilYep, bought one from CM Store EU yesterday and it's arriving via courier on friday already. Cheaper than here and no customs tax. I see no reason why european users should buy this drop unfortunately.

Just watch this have a delay in shipping because Massdrop doesn't know how to tell the truth

S.S.DragonSorry I was just trying to help :( If it's worth anything there's a Topre switch so you can consider this as the cheapest way of trying out Topre.

I bought one of these a couple of months ago. The switches are mounted to a small metal plate that sits in the plastic housing. The topre switch is a 45g dome, spring, and novatouch topre stem/switch. The dome and spring sit on a raised piece of plastic that allows it to sit at the correct height. All switches are removable and interchangeable except the topre switch, which will only work in the top right spot with the raised plastic platform. This platform also makes it so that the mx switches don't have enough room under the plate to sit right so you would have to chisel off the plastic to replace the topre switch with an mx one. No PCB but there is a little extra room that some people have used to install a teensy for using the switch tester as media controls. The lack of PCB for the topre means it wouldn't be able to be used with the teensy though. It's a pretty cool little gadget and I'm using mine to display some artisans.
