Product Description
One of the most sought-after keycap sets of the past decade is back for another round. It’s called Retro—and this time, it’s available in our exclusive MT3 profile. Designed by Matt3o and inspired by the Commodore 64 (C64) computers of the 1980s, Retro earns its name with old-school hues and timeless appeal. It also features side-printed PETSCII legends found on the original C64 systems for extra authenticity. Wildly successful in both DSA- and SA-profile runs, this signature set now showcases a throwback feel to go with its classic look. Also created in collaboration with Matt3o, our exclusive MT3 profile features scooped, slanted keycaps modeled after beamspring terminals from the 1970s. It’s a vintage experience with a modern touch—just like the rest of Retro. Made from durable doubleshot ABS, this is one set that may be on your board long enough to become truly retro.

Hi everyone,
An email was sent out just now alerting all participants that this run was canceled due to insufficient orders and an inability to meet MOQ. Payment for all orders has been refunded to the original payment method; in addition, we have issued a $20 credit to each participant as a thank you for your support, to be used on a future order.
We will be revisiting this set with Matt3o to incorporate many of the improvements that were requested earlier, and work to deliver a set that satisfies everyone who is interested in the design. Keep an eye out for a potential relaunch in the near future.
If anyone has any questions about this, please feel free to comment here. If you have a support issue related to your order, please reach out to our Community Support team at drop.com/support.
Thanks,
Hoffman
Edit to add clarity around the timing of this announcement:
First and foremost, the run and kits available were not generated and presented in the best way (lack of brown mods mentioned here by a variety of users, among other issues). Because of these shortfalls, orders for this buy were well below MOQ.
At this point, there were two options - either cancel the buy outright, or work to make it happen despite the low orders and increased complexity of production. We chose option 2, for better or worse. After trying for some time, it became apparent that canceling the buy and going back to the drawing board is ultimately the correct decision. This set is worth doing right and putting additional work into it to make it the best it can be will make you all happy and result in a better product.
I think it's clear that the communication on this was lacking, and you all have been blind-sided now by this news. Please know that we hear you and are learning from the experience. If this happens again in the future, we will do a better job to communicate what is happening behind the scenes and keep you up to date on overall progress.
codekholIt was canceled. Plans to try running it again as all-brown have been on ice for a while. It's not on the roadmap post for 2023. Drop doesn't want to run it with the side-print PETSCII legends, and Matt30 doesn't want it to run without them.
I really hope this project is still ongoing in the background and hasn't been abandoned.
Another project that needs a set like this to exist is the Commodore 64X which recently had a successful Kickstarter.

The project is developed by My Retro Computers LTD which has been using C64 molds for awhile.

Novelties for the 5 large buttons on the side would be fantastic.
But all that being said, I really want to see this set come out in any shape or form. I even really liked the original colorway on it!
Edit: There's also the Command 65 keyboard to consider!

Hi Drop guys!
Just wanted to ask how are things? Are you guys working on this set? Any news?

phinixYeah, would love to see another stab at this with all-brown keys this time instead of red/lime mods. (And with side-print sublegends on the UK ISO number keys, while we're fixing things.)
Last week the groupbuy for the Command 65 opened up and is going until Aug 19.
I'm not involved with the Command 65 project at all, other than as a participant in the group buy. I just thought the folks who were interested in retro keycap set would also be interested in the Command 65.
I would like to see this set in all brown and with an additional grey mods set. Ideally also with optional grey numbers, for people like myself with keyboards without function keys (65%, etc.). Don't bother with the burgundy and green keycaps as they are totally unrelated to the c64.
