Hey everyone,
We have an update on the Laser Keycap Set. Mito has returned from his trip to Germany, where he was able to finalize all the colors for GMK Laser. We’ve ordered the color resin and once this arrives production of the missing colors will be in full swing. Based on the delay in color approval we estimate that the keycaps will now ship in July.
We apologize for this delay. The team is working hard to get the Laser set through production in a timely manner, and we will provide an update in late May with a more precise ship date.
In the meantime, here is a picture of some of keycaps that were made to test the colors:
YanboWuHoly... they look fantastic! But also... JULY!?
Ouch. That.... that really really hurts. A lot. I guess it's only a month, but it's still a month.
YanboWuOh, and as a follow up: Lately all my shipments from Massdrop have been arriving several weeks after everyone else is starting to post pictures on Reddit. Like, up to three weeks after people are starting to get their sets. What's the deal with that? I live near Seattle and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to when shipments reach us. I have friends who live in Seattle and got SA Carbon a full two weeks before me? Care to elaborate?
atari.zero.tvThey ship via smartpost which is a completely garbage shipping service. I'm west coast as well, and things usually take a couple weeks to get to me.
atari.zero.tvThat is odd, I'll check to see what's going on here.
Though Seattle is probably one of the furthest spots in the US from our warehouse in New Jersey.
OldCatRecaps don't usually happen until the keycap sets have already shipped, they do it with any leftover stock after orders and replacements if needed have all been taken care of, so I wouldn't hold your breath.
wwangI am also wondering if there has been a more specific date that was settled on after the delay. Please update estimated shipping info when possible, thanks!
YanboWuI would also like to know of any recent updates :) If I remember correctly, it didn't sound like the color matching was going to cause too much of a disturbance?
KM1337My bad, just trying to be realistic, this will be a huge order so it will probably take awhile. I'm actually pretty positive about it. I don't even have a board for this yet, so I'm glad they took the time to get it perfect.
zzzaacchhThis is true, I would rather have Laser as it's meant to be and a little later, rather than getting a rushed set w/ flaws... I was just under the impression that the color matching was a slight delay, but I suppose, ultimately, we will see.
Also, if you're looking for a board for it, Alt + Laser is up -wink wink- lol
This wait has just been pretty intense... My first experience on MD w/ an item that's going to take MONTHS like this..

KM1337I do like the look of that, but I'm all about that ortho bro. :P
Golgo13I want a 5 x 16, basically a preonic with a full numpad. I will have to get a plate cut and hand wire it, but hopefully it could fit in a 65% case. I love those skb cases though, there should be more cases made like that.
Edit: Just saw they added the SKB65! I'm going to have to break out the credit card...
KM1337Ortho boards are awesome, mate. I have a Plank and it's just a joy to type on. If I've been using it a bunch instead of a staggered (just so I'm properly used to it) I get around 70-90 WPM on typeracer, as opposed to my normal 65-75 range on a staggered. You might be able to pick up a contra from Cartel keyboards cheap enough to make it worth trying one...
(Although it is worth noting that my laser board is a staggered. Just because I want all the Laser keycaps possible to be on display, and my planck is too small! Oh, and my planck has SA Carbon, which I have no intention of parting with.)
poseidon0025Had actually been looking at the contra a while back. One of these days when I have time / motivation to assemble a fully custom keyboard, I will probably look to ortho before standard staggered.
I got a TKL Carbon Set and some Pulse from an old SP grab bag and that's what i've been running (mix match) as my daily for a while now on my Z-88 (~70% layout) - Not only does SA just feel great to type on, it also makes my Z-88 not sound so high pitched (being that it uses otemu blues and is a frameless case).
