The case, caps, and board are good though need some mod work. The switches are another thing though...
The Panda X switches that come in this are wildly inconsistent from the factory. Some of them feel great but about half of them are scratchy, pingy, or something I've not seen before...squeaky.
I took them all out, liberally lubed them, did some tape modding and everything but around half are still noticably squeaky with around 10 of them sounding like a rusty wheel no matter how much I lube or tweek them. The pins and housing are also quite weak compared to the previous white case holy pandas.
They force it took to remove the switches was also just ridiculous making me fear at first that they were soldered in, and therefore making them unremovable without the high potential for damaging or warping them.
This is a great keyboard....but not for this price. It needs to have a barebones edition or allow for alternative switches because the Holy Panda X that comes in them are not worth the price and are bordering on unusable and if they are going to sell signature editions that barely allow light they need to build custom PCB varients with heavily reduced lighting.
If the case was sold separately I would get it over this in a heartbeat. Luckily the caps are for now.
Two of these have failed on me now. 1st: Keyboard powered off randomly in the middle of the day, had to be unplugged and plugged back in. 2nd: the replacement worked fine until just after the warranty expired, and then key switches randomly stopped working. 5-star price and construction, 1-star electronics. If your wallet is larger than your brain, just make sure to buy two so you have spare parts.
The moment you get close to this keyboard it invites you to feel it. This keyboard feels luxurious. The built quality and the anodized aluminum finish that reflect a subdued vibrant light is spectacular that gives the whole design an unmatched beauty. It connected and was recognized with my Macbook Pro 2021 instantly. The quality and feel of the MT3 keycaps is next level, and the switches has a nice soft click sound. You could customize your keyboard LED lights in a variety of colours and modes. I will give this a 5 star overall. This is my first mechanical keyboard. I am not a gamer nor an enthusiast, but I know product quality when I see and experience it. Well made. I wish if there was an MT3 aluminum keycaps now.😄
Thank you DROP.
This board its awesome, never knew a whole community existed for keyboard enthusiasts. It's built like a tank and typing feels really solid.
I still believe it's a solid keyboard, but I noticed when increasing the LED brightness specifically on red, blue and green the led on those colors specifically. keep flashing but when i lower it it stops. I assume this isn't normal. Had the keyboard less than a week and i noticed this when i finally had time to play with the keyboard. I contacted Drop and I hope I can get assistance with this.
It feels really good right out of the box. The stabilizers are pretty good as they are: Drop phantoms lubed wires. I’m a little picky so I’ll still be adding a little foam and lubing the switches. I knew it didn’t but, I wish it came with the full set of base caps in the Skiidata set.
It's fair to say that this keyboard introduced me to custom keyboards and Drop in general. If I could make suggestion, it would be for the option to not have the diffuser and either have the case fit together flush, or for there to be a thin gap between the two halves. It's still perfect either way.
Orange case and key slant are cool AF. It's a tall keyboard but good with wrist rest. Stable typing and responsive switches. Keycaps remind me of an old commercial type writer (but in orange font). LEDs come rainbow pattern out of box, key change-able or using the configurator (which I'll be doing to just change to single color).
I bought this as a treat for myself and my initial impressions are that I wish I had bought it earlier. This is literally a heavy-weight keyboard and it designed to stay right where you place it on your desk. Its small enough to be used for travel, but the weight of the device gives me some pause to do that. However, I bought this for desktop use and not being mobile, so no stars docked for that.
As for the case, caps, and switches I think this is a perfect blend of the MT3 and Holy Panda X switches. I'm still new to this area of the community, but this combination has the best feel and response I have ever experienced out of any peripheral, and not just a keyboard. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase, and would encourage anyone that has the desire and the means to make the purchase - I think you'll very much enjoy the experience, look, and feel!
