A great alternative to bulky window or standing AC units, the EV-500 Personal humidifier/fan/ AC gives you control over the humidity, air quality, and temperature of your surrounding environment. Featuring a removable tank that can be filled with water, the unit uses evaporative cooling technology to create a natural cooling effect in any space up to 45 square feet Read More
Yan1vYou need to replace the cartridge every 6-8 months, provided that you constantly use your Evapolar during that time period. At the moment there is no indication system that notifies you when the cartridge has expired. If you use clean water and wipe the operating chamber of the device from time to time, its life cycle can be significantly increased.
EDIT: Replacement cartridge is $29 and can be found here.
It’s an evaporative cooler, not an A/C unit. Saying “it conditions the air” to justify the use of the term is nonsense. With that logic you could call a HEATER an “air conditioner”.
Words have meaning — and we’ve had more than enough of people pretending they don’t.
Part of the benefit of refrigerant based air conditioners is that they dry the air by removing moisture as the air is cooled. If you suffer from heat AND humidity this unit just adds more humidity to the air.
If you are in an arid/dry environment then this type of unit can certainly provide some cooling. Remember AC stands for Air Conditioning whether from compressed refrigerant or evaporation. Just depends on your situation.
I live in SoCal and in this dry climate, these little things really work. I have one with a phone-charger/batterypack and it keeps my puppy cool and happy. I have realistically seen 20+ degree drops, it all depends on your relative humidity. My only gripe is the small reservoir.
The title says "AC" because people don't understand evaporative cooling. It is also called a "swamp cooler" by some people.
A----RAC stands for Air Conditioning and this unit does condition the air. It just doesn't work well if you are already in a humid environment as the evaporative method cools by adding more moisture to the air.
