Product Description
Robust and classic, the Italix Viper’s Strike is a business-friendly pen that means business. It comes in a few different styles: the black-and-rhodium model with a rounded silhouette and blunt, flat ends; and the black-and-gold and all-gold models, which are slimmer, straighter, and more textured Read More

Update: This pen, with a Cursive Medium grind from Italix is a 100% CHAMP! I've had it inked with Diamine Matador from day one, and it never, ever fails to write! It can sit for a week, and it gushes ink as soon as you touch the paper. Bravo Italix!

The main reason I was interested in picking up this pen was because of the gold nib option. Both times that this drop has happened (that I've seen) there has been no option for it. Being that it was the first Italix to be offered with a gold nib (according to Mr. Ford's YouTube video), I think it's odd not to have the option available. Would it be possible to order the gold nib separately from Mr. Pen? Either way, I'm in this time around, and I'll be waiting for the drop for the Captain's Commission as well. Lovely pens!
(I'd be interested in some of the other models, but some are not offered with a silver/chrome trim, and I'm not a fan of gold)

Does this pen come with a #6 or #5 nib? I know the Parson's Essential is a #5 (i have two). Does anyone know which, if any, of the Italix pens offer a #6 nib?

Responding to the 8th comment (asking if the VS section/body can be swapped with the PE), Stephen Brown said he had and it worked fine.
Hoping that helps.

The Churchman's is a #6 at a similar price point. The Viper Strike is a #5 like the Parson's. The Commodore's and the Captain's, if you are willing to spend a bit more, also have larger nibs.

Hey Mr. Pen, I was wondering if a silver colored steel nib option is available? The rhodium/black version looks great, even stunning. But the gold nib with the rhodium trim seems offputting to me personally.

I don't think this version even has the option of the gold nib. I'm not sure but the photos may not be correct.

I didn’t mean an actual gold nib, but a steel nib that's gold-toned. It seems to me a silver-toned steel nib would look much much better.

So I'm a noob when it comes to pens, figured $60 seems like a pretty good starting point. Could someone explain the process in refilling ink in this pen and what I may need to buy to do this refilling. I only own a few dip pens so refilling has never really been an issue haha.

Stick converter in pen, stick pen by the nib in ink bottle, twist converter a few times.

@Bigblackcorn if you are using India ink or something like the speedball inks, you DON’T want to put those in a fountain pen. It will ruin the pen. Make sure any ink you use make sure it say for fountain pens. However you will be able to use your dip pens with the fountain pens inks.

Very nice pen with nice feel to it. The fine nib is a bit too generous in flow and width to my personal liking, but I guess I may have to write that up to inexperience. The fountain pen is big though and weighs a lot. High quality though and I'm very satisfied with it despite the slightly broader writing.

Does this include shipping? (I'm new to Massdrop.)

When orders are placed direct with the manufacturer the shipping charge is £10.50 GBP that is about $13.65 USD so there is a significant saving in shipping alone of around $10.89 USD for Massdrop customers in the USA. Elsewhere saving on shipping of between 40% and 60% can be expected.

Thank you for explaining, MrPen. I do not live in th USA, I live in Canada. Many shipping companies - UPS, FedEx, etc charge U.S. brokerage fees after the fact - that is, the shipper does not see them and the receiver sometimes doesn't even get the bill until a month or so after receiving the goods. It usually includes a brokerage fee, a fee for posting a bond to release the goods, a fee for not paying the fees before it arrives, etc. Yes, this is over and above any shipping cost the shipping fulfilment company charges. Yes, this is over and above the taxes and duties collected. On an item of this value it can easily amount to the cost of the item or more. (The post office charges $10 Canadian for collecting customs and taxes, but the USPS cost of a trackable package to Canada is just over $30 USD so your information tells me they are not using the post.) I am better off buying direct from you in the UK. (And hopefully my long explaination will help my fellow Canadians avoid an unpleasant shock.) Likely MassDrop is not really practical, in general, for us in Canada.

My personal favourite of all the pens we offer from Italix. You will like the half turn only to post the cap. The finish on the barrel is a chevron style pattern. I personally use the solid gold nib version but all write with the same smoothness. All nibs are ground in our own workshop in Ruislip England. Many people have speculated how the nib's smoothness is achieved, we use three Swiss papers as well as Micro Mesh and finish this with a leather strop. The techniques are very much ours.

I own two Parsons, and I am sorely tempted by this drop. I have one medium with a reverse non-italic oblique (cause I'm a lefty) and one regular Broad, and they are two of my favorite writers, and always in my EDC. The VS also just looks very cool--especially in the black/rhodium.
