10 lbs WITH the amp built in...there's no way you are getting remotely hi-fi sound out of these. Sadly, I don't really have a valid alternative at the $200/pr price range. I have a pair of $300/pr Chane A1.4 which get raved about, and even those I think are far away from hi-fi.
They aren't hifi speakers they are studio monitors. Made to be as neutral and uncolored as possible.
Why is being a "monitor" often used as an excuse for being unresolving, bad at imaging, undynamic, having bad bass performance and generally being unlistenable?
These are pretty much universally considered one of the best (if not the best) models you can buy in the $200-300 price range though? Also, as far as I know, "unresolving, bad at imaging, undynamic, having bad bass performance and generally being unlistenable" aren't descriptions people use for these monitors. Sure, you're not gonna get $2000 worth of performance out of them, but you're also paying $200 for them.
If you ask me, these sound very hifi for the price range, so perhaps consider spending "hifi money" on speakers you consider "hifi" so that you're not going to be unhappy with them?
Simply put, you're not the one this product is addressed to. Just like a HD25 SPII headset isn't made for you. These products fill a certain need: monitoring. This is cheap monitoring, sure. But don't blame it for its lack of sound coloration. It is as nonsensical as blaming a guitar for not being a bass.
Well, the HD25 is lo-fi junk so yeah, they are definatley not for me.
Being lightweight means they don't have a lot of dampening / rigidity or powerful woofer driver. The low price just means its not using high-quality crossover components or drivers. Maybe it benifits from advanced computer design as the waveguide suggests.
Another post by you bitching what's Hifi and what's not. You should own a Hifi(by your opinion)music site and stay the fuck on there and express your thoughts there because us Mass Drop people don't know shit
get a life you ass
JBL LSR305 is making its name in Music 'production' market, not hifi consumer. Pricing under $200, There are few, even in $300 range, pairs of studio monitor which can rival the versatility of LSR305 in budget pricing
I recently bought a $600 pair of interconnects (AntiCables 6.2 ABSOLUTE Signature), couldn't tell the difference, and so ended up returning them for a full refund. I guess I fail as an audiophool -- also that word outs you as having never heard high end audio.
Lets be 1000% honest and ultra real: the studio market is mostly guys in their bedroom / basement cutting tracks on their PCs and midi keyboards. Real pro producers are sitting in actual studios with 10s or 100s of thousands of dollars worth of equipment. They use monitors like Genelex, not things like this.
Get off the class warfare kick.
"Studio market is mostly guys in their bedroom /basement" Thanks for a laugh , that's why you need to keep testing $600 cable. That's why you keep saying "Real pro producer are sitting in actual studios with 10s or 100s of thousands of dollars". It showed that you don't know anything in music production related issue ,like,at all
Let's be 1000% honest and ultra real here, guys who always justify cost for quality don't know what music production or ''music'' REALLY is.
You'd be surprised to know that I've seen "real pro producers" use these in videos.
Everyone, you know what? If someone wants to keep on whining about how they're not getting a perfectly flat frequency response seen in TOTL speakers from a pair of $200 speakers, let them be. I own these speakers; a lot of my friends with excellent ears do, and for the price these are amazing.
Good luck with your search for $200 speakers that give you, oh I don't know, components and R&D cost that exceeds the MSRP of the speakers themselves!
You not being interested in flat response hardware is all fine and dandy, but reading you is still facepalm-inducing. If you wish not to make a fool out of yourself, do not assume what pros use, what is standard, what reality is. Or maybe, just maybe, research the matter a little bit before spouting horseshit left and right. Now, why don't you educate yourself and look up the difference between HD25 and HD25 SPII?
I've worked with some of the most accomplished musicians in the world, I know somebody who has been number 1 on the charts multiple times and he didn't even have monitors as good as these. You are pretentious in your assumptions and quite frankly clueless.
You are wrong mate, imagine you work in a studio and you got BOSE speakers and making music on them, so let me tell you, only on these bose the music is gonna sound perfect. But if you got unlistenable speakers like JBL and make nice sounding song. Turn it UP on whatever speakers you want and will sound nice...
These are fantastic monitors for the price. Brand new a pair will run you about $500 Canadian or around $350 USD. I've listened to these, and the KRK Rokit 5s, and the JBLs are astonishingly better, yet people lose their shit over the 5s.
These aren't meant to rival monitors costing thousands upon thousands of dollars. Why would you think that is beyond me.
Maybe...I dunno...go whine elsewhere about your high knowledge on hi-fi?
I mean, look at the amp section on these things:
You seriously can't believe you are getting quality sound out of these?
You know what happens to artists that always need "the best gear" or "the latest software" they never make meaningful art. These things are simply tools and they play a minor role in the success of self expression and original thinking, a true artist just needs a pencil and a piece of paper to convey brilliance.
I will believe with my ears nothing else matters. If the sound is good to the end user why do you care so fukin much you need to get a life
SBAF is a bottom feeder site run by a few ego maniacs sucking off of "friend" orbiters to feed the bottomless pit of self aggrandizement. If you stop feeding the ego maniacs you will find yourself banned -- like OJneg (I felt sorry for him posting an hour long YouTube video with voice shaking defending himself from a piece of trash admin who felt slighted and then all his "friends" turning against him).
Its funny how you resort to calling other people "ego maniac". When you, yourself, are looking to call something bad, and using false information to condescend people or product. While you are acting like you are in the place to judge. When in reality, you don't have a knowledge or experience at all. That's for me its called 'trolling ego maniac'
You're hanging out in the wrong place if you're dropping more on cables than these speakers. Then again, you're so wise about speakers you should know that. Go troll headfi or /r/speakers, bruh.
Clearly you've ascended to bigger and better toys and now you have to go and rain on other people's parade because you're so high and mighty. Audio is subjective. Sorry if we havent had the honor to go listen to thousands of dollars worth of audio gear.
I started off with generic $5 speakers and worked my way towards this speaker. Please get off your high horse.
You don't want want amazing hifi sound to create or mix/master music. Otherwise your end result will sound great through those speakers, and those speakers only. It will generally sound bad on any other non-hifi sound system (aka the sound setups that 99% of people use). That's why producers and audio engineers use completely neutral, uncolored speakers: it's honest sound. You don't buy monitors for hifi sound lol
