I'm 43, RARA is a physically different design, the spring/ and leaf ping is more quite. RARA is not the T1 clones.
It is very similar to 62g mx clear, more smooth.
43-cccHello 43,
Thanks so much for taking the time to participate in the discussion about your switches. I'm sure there are many people who are grateful to learn more about the story behind them.
I notice that there are a number of 'RARA' switch currently under production again. These include the 'Shogoki' and RARA V2 switches.
I've also read elsewhere that the Everglide Jade uses a RARA stem, although I'm not certain about that. Do you think you might be able to clarify the matter for us? I was wondering if you could tell us whether Jades use the RARA, and also what other switches use the RARA stem?
Alright, I got mine in about two weeks ago and haven't had time to mess around with them, but ya'll... I think I cracked the code.
RARA housing + NK Cream stem and spring.
It has a very similar bottom out to Holy Pandas, but not as harsh, and a bit higher pitched.
I think we have a candidate for a linear Holy Panda. If anyone wants that sorta thing.
Okay, now that I'm home, I tried some Raras against T1s (Red stem, smoky housing), Koalas, and Lilacs. Each switch had Sprit 63.5 Slow springs in them, no lube or film added.
Raras definitely are prelubed on stem and bottom housing rails.
In terms of stock smoothness, my experience was T1s>Raras>Koalas=Lilacs.
For sound, Raras are lower pitched and bassier than T1s, and are slightly more muted than Koalas, less bassy than Lilacs. The upstroke of the Raras sounds to be the quietest of all 4 switches.
In terms of feel, Raras feel like they have more pretravel than T1s. Holding them side by side and pressing gently till I start to feel the bump, I can definitely see the Rara stem press down more than the T1 (seems like it goes twice as deep, in my rough totally-not-professional guesstimate). The tactile bump also feels less sharp and less pronounced than the T1s. I can see what the 43 means by the Ergo Clear comparison. An interesting tactile option that I hope is more widely available, feels and sounds like a bit of a "stealthier" (but not silenced) tactile option in the JWK lineup.
I look forward to lubing, filming, and probably springswapping these (as stock spring is a bit pingy).
SlashEmperorMine came in the mail today, no news that it was on the way either. Maybe its because I'm used to heavier springs but it definitely feels like they need a spring swap. Imo, the springs are just too light and the stem gets caught on the upstroke because of its tactility. I put 73g MP springs from Thicthock in some and they feel a lot better now.
Just wanted to say, my switches showed up today out of nowhere, no shipment notification or tracking was sent. Based on the promotional images, I thought the housing was all-white, but there's a distinct minty tint to the top housing, which kinda pops in-person.
I'll need to compare these to my other JWK tactiles when I get home, but so far, these appear to be quite smooth (like Lilacs) but with some spring ping and housing rattle (but I always film JWK switches, which should hopefully take care of that).
WilliamfloydeThey gave me the runaround when I asked them a week ago, knowing this company I guarantee we won't get any information until they're at our doorstep.
