Like a little metal briefcase on your keychain, this two-in-one aluminum switch opener goes anywhere you go in style. Secured by magnets, it has two sides: one for Cherry MX switches, the other for Kailh BOX switches Read More
I’m a kbdfans buyer, so no official review, but definitely like these. Don’t use them on zeal switches, but if you just generally want to be able to open switches as a “beyond fidget toy fidget toy” this is great.
I clicked on this cause I did not know what it was exactly. Did a Google search And I’m still not completely sure. Something to do with modifying the keyboards? Whatever it is, I guess I don’t need it.
Sidenote: Do you remember when a Google search actually used to be helpful? Anymore, all I get are ads and promoted topics instead of the actual information I’m looking for. Google has destroyed the Internet.
Since Drop does not ship to BadHombreLand, I have to use an additional service. When the opener arrived 2 weeks ago at the facility, they took a picture of it and says "plastic box". I'm afraid it was stolen and replaced by an empty plastic case. Did you received yours in a plastic box, like an engagement ring box in size?
These are high quality aluminum switch openers. They will last you a lifetime of switch modding and are a good pick up if you ever plan to lube or film switches.
How do you take off the switch of a working keyboard? I mean assembled keyboard. Take off the surrounding keycaps and? The surface area is so large that you need clear space and you cannot even see where the opening / notches are? Is it really supposed to work with switch in hand and not soldered to the pcb?
Yeah switch should be removed from the keyboard before using it. As for how you remove the switch from a keyboard that will depend on keyboard in question. If it has a hotswap pcb you remove the keycap with a keycap puller to expose the switch. Then you use a switch puller to pull out the switch. If the switch is soldered to the keyboard then you need to open it up and desolder the switches.
Thanks
I have looked up and figured that out. As usual with the deals (just not keyboard related but every deal you like) buy first and think later. All my keyboards have switches soldered to PCB except one. I would rather buy the switch opener from MechanicalKeyboards and open the switch than desolder switches and use this tool
