You and @Mammoth both said exactly what I have noticed and felt about this site in general. While some of their deals do offer a decent savings, I've found that most of the time the savings is negligible. The one thing I do have a huge issue with MD about is that they charge shipping for EACH item in a given drop - so if I were to purchase 3 of these knives, I'd be paying $4.75 each time, even though the items are all shipped together at once. I don't know how someone can justify charging shipping for multiple items that are made in one order, especially when they deliver the multiple items in one package.
ClaytonatorI agree with you about the shipping charges. It makes no sense to take advantage of members to charge multiple shipping charges for items shipped at the same time. ..I would like to hear how that is justified !
I got mine today, and it has a serrated edge at the base (Drop-Point blade) instead of a completely straight one. Did this happen to anyone else? https://youtu.be/trnPh6FB8EY
ankylosaurusemailed them and they want a bunch of photos of things like the package and paperwork, sent them one of the knife. bullshit because who keeps that stuff? not about to dig through the garbage.
I just received a new knife from them no serration. So thank you massdrop for helping clear all this up and thanks to those that also followed up on this.
You know, I generally don't like it when folks bash Massdrop in the comments, but really? This is the sort of thing where it's becoming clear that Massdrop (or whoever arranged for the drop) needs to start doing a general search before posting up a drop. At the minimum, look at Amazon or Ebay. If you're finding that "Huh, this isn't a deal at all" and then maybe just not go through with the drop. If a REAL DEAL can't be arranged, then maybe it's just better to pass and try for something else.
The MSRP is a bit misleading, I was like wow what a steal, from $70 all the way down to $25, but I looked on amazon and this same knife goes for $36.84
i waited a month for this knife and didnt get what i ordered!!!
it says tanto on my order details and my receipt but theres a drop point in my hand.. WTF
I'm seriously getting annoyed at all the drops that ship to the US only on Massdrop lately. The Blades and Hobby Shop communities are loosing my interest fast with this practice.
user321They usually ship to other countries. If your country isn't listed, just contact the support, they might have news for you. It worked out for me ;)
What I think happens is, Amazon watches a lot of sites and basically price matches/undercuts deals constantly. They're fully aware of how this site works too. Once they see the drop price they can then set a price just below it and wreck the drop. There isn't much massdrop can do other than start flexing the price after its started to beat other sellers and prices.
well the events in that article happened 6 years ago, the article itself is 3 years old. i also doubt that amazon gets the same wholesale rates as a startup website from a major manufacturer like PG. just the buying power amazon brings itself can make their calculations completely wrong. take a look at walmart and coca cola. or costco and any of their suppliers. costco has such a fantastic return policy cause they don't lose money off of it.
I work in logistics (nothing fancy, loading trucks actually), just thought it would be funny to add that the volume of diapers that goes through the system is insane. Easily averaging 3-4 on each truck every weekday. Though, I wonder how that projected loss of $100 million compares to the expected cost of advertising. Perhaps Amazon is betting on customers purchasing extra stuff once they get in the habit of buying something on such a regular basis as diapers. Kind of like the movie theater model for popcorn and soda.
haha I don't know if anyone really cares, but I thought I'd add my thoughts. Thanks for the link andy, that was a good read. Amazon is ruthless.
