If the construction is plastic I'm out!
The previous one had a lot of bad reviews about the plastic cover breaking or cracking a lot. Plus all the other things about poor battery life etc for it.
What material is it made with? Is it plastic like the Keysmart Pro? That's one thing people complained a lot about, I have a metal KeySmart and would be willing to trade it for one with the Tile feature, but not if it's plastic.
mdeousI've been using the Keysmart Pro since it was released. I can attest for the poor battery life (2-3 weeks max) and crappy BT connectivity, however the LED is solid and the plastic has held up quite well over the years. There are small dents from a few drops on rough concrete, but no cracks. The plastic is still white although the micro-usb cover has yellowed over time. I assume most cases of cracking come from people overtightening the screws based on the Amazon reviews and some have gotten replacements via Keysmart's 2 year warranty. Metal would be nice, but would likely interfere or require adequate shielding for the internals, not to mention drive the already ridiculous price way up.
kokin Thanks for the insight! I ended up ordering the Max from Amazon as I could have a similar price and get it faster, and while it's indeed plastic, it doesn't feel cheap and fragile at all. Time will tell if that's just an impression or not, but so far I'm not disappointed.
One thing though (but maybe that's just me being stupid), I was unable to use the extender I had on my metal one, the screws don't fit, but I was able to fit all my keys without it anyway in the end.
Based on the previous verison, I don't believe it lasts 60 days. The previous one claimed 30 and didn't come close. Also the ringer on the keys isn't loud enough to hear if you are far away.
You are probably better off buying a plain keysmart and sticking one of those self powered tile buttons onto it.
I have the old Pro version of this and this intrigues me. Does anybody know the lumen output on the light? I’d like to take my Nitecore Tip off of my keys to save space but the Pro’s light isn’t bright enough.
Review. After over 2 weeks of use. This is what I think.
Construction : very solid. All the hardware are very well made, tight no rattle. The plastic body seems OK but I don't like the gloss finish. It's figure print and scratch magnet.
Flashlight : enough to brightness to find key hole in the dark but not to navigate.
Tile function : not good enough. This is most disappoint for me because I bought it just because tile function integrated. It works well to find Keysmart from your phone but not other way around.
Conclusion : I would not recommend it unless it's around $60. You can an older version with small keychain flashlight and tile tag for much cheaper price.
Ok, I ordered from Amazon w/ the 10% discount and got it today. I swapped my keys over from my old Keysmart to this.
Box comes with the Keysmart Max, and already mounted: "multitool", rubber connector and black key ring. Also in the box is a plastic "tool", e.g. screwdriver for opening up the Keysmart, and a short charging cable.
The construction of the Keysmart is certainly attractive, its got a long narrow shape with two unobtrusive buttons on the front, one for the Tile and one for the light. The Tile function seems to work well, it paired quickly and makes enough noise to be audible from in the room when using the locate feature. Don't think you'd hear it from another room. The light is pretty bright for a small integrated light but suspect its not as bright as one of the brighter separate keychain lights. My keys mounted easily inside and conceal themselves similar to other Keysmart's. The plastic itself of the unit appears to be a hard plastic, and I'm hoping fairly durable but time will tell. Overall this helped me slim down my pocket EDC. Will see how it does over time.
