Designed by knifemaker Ulrich Hennicke, the Sealion exhibits every bit of precision and harmony you’d expect in a top-notch German design. Deceptively quick, like the animal it’s named for, this flipper opens fast and is quick to take on work. The titanium frame is slim yet hand-filling, and the chamfered edges give the knife a put-together feel. At the top of the handle are small cutouts, almost like whiskers. As for the blade, it’s crafted from premium S35VN stainless steel, owing to the knife’s excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance. Though the Sealion is primarily silver in color, the pivot ring is cobalt blue for a little bit of contrast. Carry it on the right side by way of the titanium clip.

Developed by Crucible Industries (one of the leading manufacturers of specialty steels for the cutlery industry) and Chris Reeve (pioneer of the integral frame lock, featured on the Gent), S35VN is perhaps the most balanced blade steel ever created in terms of all-around performance. It’s made through a process known as Crucible Powdered Metallurgy, which results in near perfect consistency in the distribution of carbides. Compared to conventional melting practices, the CPM process produces a steel characterized by superior dimensional stability, grindability, and toughness.
