As soon as I saw this blade I knew I had to have it. With it's over-the-top gear-driven design, its a no-brainer for anyone trying to get a piece thats unique and stylish. Plus it adds at least 20 cool points when you're carrying it. No one can deny its awesomeness.
All that aside, the gear mechanism is very smooth, and the knife gives a very satisfying click when locking into place. Very heavy piece, but thats to be expected with this kind of design and mechanism.
Yes, the mechanism is very cool. I'm not sorry I bought it, and I will carry it - just not daily! If you don't like chunky knives, and you carry your knives, take a pass.
I got copper - copper looks a bit odd not normal copper colour almost more brass looking - raw copper usually starts more pinkish and then turns brown. Just a fun knife with unique mech and look. Definitely collects lint and dust but easy to brush out. Love the steampunk vibe.

Gears are cute, knife is substandard
A novelty opening system, but a mediocre blade and a big, clumsy knife. The visible gear mechanism is cute. Gives the knife a steampunk feel. That’s the only good thing I can say. Overall the knife is clunky and feels tough and uncomfortable in the hand. The blade feels unbalanced and paradoxically the handle is heavy and the blade feels cheap and thin. I have several Drop- sources knives and love most of them. This one was a dud
I bought this knife because I thought the mechanism was very interesting.. it is.. but, is VERY difficult to use.. I had to push so hard on the lever I was afraid I was going to break the knife. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone I know...
I loved the concept of this knife: a flipper that uses functional gears to pivot the blade. However in practice the knife didn’t Impress beyond that feature. It’s heavy in the hand and the pocket, it is clumsy to open with a side thumb lever that requires a lot more force then I’d like. The blade looks like it’s painted black and it’s a less then flattering texture and type. I guess as a demonstration of form over function it works. But it will not be used.
