My first foray into serious hi-res audio after much, much study. Ordered these headphones when first I heard of this steal, I mean deal. I'm a latecomer but always wanted a Sennheiser, and at a no-brainer price, I did the right thing. It did open a whole new can of worms though. That prompted me to get an ifi nano iDSD BL multi-bit DAC/headphone amp combo in order to listen with the HD6XX properly. Plenty of power to drive them, really woke them up after subscribing to TIDAL to get MQA. Beautiful sound. They really are comfortable, no problems getting used to them. Can't compare the sound to anything I've heard in years, they're so far above and beyond the various ear pods and PC speakers I'd been using.  So then I did a TON more research to find a decent sounding entry for a desktop system. Ended up trying the Schiit Audio Magni and Modi 3 and they sounded amazing with the Senns. There's no MQA or DSD, but for PCM, I don't know if they can be beat for sound or value at the price.

I'm using the nano for the higher res formats, but I have HDDs full of music using iTunes and other formats. The Schiit stack made every tune sound brand new. I couldn't believe how much "I'd never heard before". Overall I'd have to rate the sound noticeably better with the ifi nano and MQA coding. However, PCM files played through the Schiits sounded almost as good. But I'm glad I got both. Really glad I stumbled across the Massdrop X Sennheiser HD6XX collaboration. Jumped right in to hi res because of it. Since then I went with Audioengine's A5+ Wireless (HD6's on back-order) and a Klipsch R-100SW sub for listening out loud.

Got the Shinola Canfield Bluetooth IEM by Campfire Audio, because - pair with Schiit Audio. They sound pretty good, too.

Does this happen to all the recent converts? I really am going to stop after getting a portable digital audio player. For a while. Really. All because of Massdrop, who have now changed their name to Drop this next month. But I'm finally, really, re-discovering music, and not tiring of listening. The last piece to add for now, is a good DAP for DSD and MQA and do streaming to pair with the HD6XX and the ifi nano. The iPhone sounds ok with Bluetooth, but I need better! I'd really like to hear any recommendations regarding players, portable or desktop, there's such a variety of them out there that I'm in a quandary. You guys have influenced me in a good way so I'll take more time looking. This turned into something more than just a review for the HD6XX, I'll try to do better in the future. EDIT: 5/25/19 - Meanwhile, the HD6s from Audioengine finally arrived. They're still burning in but already sound better than the A5+. I really appreciate the company's ethos: high-quality sound that's affordable. Their craft is impeccable and they look pretty sharp, too.

EDIT again: Decided to go with the Activo CT10, made by the parent company of Astell & Kern, iRiver. Everything you could want in a player: amazing sound quality, amp, multi-bit DAC, storage, Bluetooth, USB, wi-fi, DLNA, aptX HD, DSD, native MQA and just about every other format known to audio. The A&K sound and tech goodness in an affordable package for the common man.

godilovetoastHey thanks, they're one of the brands I'm looking at/listening to. So many. Between Astell & Kern and Chord Mojo I don't think I can go wrong.

ChaosReigns69I have to tell ya to go with the HD6XX! You won't regret it, especially if you give them power. I've not heard the Jubilee but for the few extra bucks you know what I recommend :)
