Massdrop x Intern Series 1: Pockets & Packets

With innovative designs that blend technical materials, a streetwear aesthetic, and a no-to-low-waste policy, the Techwear Intern is taking the fashion industry to school. A student of fashion design based in Vancouver, Canada, he gained a massive following in February of this year when he designed, patterned, and sewed an entirely new product every day for 30 days straight—and documented the whole process. He created duffel bags and backpacks with highly modular adaptability, the world’s lightest waterproof jacket, and more. Now, he continues to make some of the most exciting gear out there.

Since the challenge, the Intern has been busy working alongside our team at Massdrop, iterating the designs he revealed only a few months ago. Together, we've worked out the bugs, refined the designs, and further reduced manufacturing waste. The result: an incredible ecosystem of intercompatible products called the Modular Adaptive Carry Standard (MACS). Made of lightweight, waterproof, and super-durable X-Pac fabric, each bag stands alone as a daily essential for anyone who wants a more organized carry. When combined with the rest of the MACS system slated to roll out this year, the possibilities are endless.

Designed to help people keep their lives in order, the Modular Adaptive Carry System of pouches can hold drawing supplies, camera gear, cables and tech accessories, wallets, sunglasses, notebooks, and more. They’re available in a range of sizes that can work together in endless configurations to meet almost any carry need. Plus, they’re manufactured with a method that produces little to no raw materials waste. Intentionally simple and functional, the MACS pouches are complete with American-made Lenzip Raindefyer #8 zippers, Velcro for attaching patches and labels, MOLLE webbing loops throughout, and G-hooks for creating your own customized solution with multiple interchangeable pouches. With your Packet, you can also get a highly customizable strap, so you can attach multiple pouches in seconds and easily convert it to a sling pack or messenger bag.

Each pouch is constructed from VX-07RS HS-DWR Dimension-Polyant fabric, originally created for use as a heavy-weather spinnaker sailcloth on performance racing yachts and recently used to secure a win in the America’s Cup. When applied to the construction of bags and accessories, Dimension-Polyant's X-Pac fabric unlocks a level of technical standard that is revolutionizing the textile industry: ultralight, fully waterproof, long-wearing performance for a price that's redefining what consumers can expect from their products. Made in the USA, X-Pac is a C6 DWR-coated 70d double ripstop nylon face laminated to a 50d polyester taffeta backing. The signature “X” pattern, along with a 0.25mm PET film, is placed between the face and backing to achieve long-term durability with a weight of only 162.7 oz/yd.
