Naked & Famous isn’t your average denim company, which is good, because we didn’t want to make your average pair of jeans. We wanted just the right fit, just the right weight, and just the right amount of slub Read More

Hello Everyone,
Wanted to share a few things that make the Ichiban Selvage special to me:
1. The denim is custom woven for this collaboration in Japan based on the discussions around raw denim on Massdrop, /r/rawdenim, and styleforum.
2. The weight of the denim makes it substantial enough to achieve a great spectrum of fades, but at 13.75oz it's still wearable during all four seasons.
3. The weft is rope dyed with natural indigo (directly from the indigo plant, not chemical recreation indigo) which again, should produce a beautiful spectrum of fades.
4. The fabric has just a little slub to give it texture without creating an obviously slubby fade pattern.
5. The selvedge ID is a unique Massdrop blue.
Our goal with the Ichiban was to create a denim that would warrant a spot in an enthusiast’s rotation, while attracting new people to the community with an accessible price and feature set.
We have to drag some partners kicking and screaming into community first design, but not NF. If you've been around the raw denim community for some time, you'll know Bahzad (your main man on this project at NF) was born on the forums and never left. Just as we were about to reach out, we got an email from Bahzad (we're talking about a couple hour window) looking to explore the possibility of a community first collaboration and you're looking at the result.
To add a data point on sizing, I'm usually a size 35-36 in Uniqlo jeans (slimmer fit, waist fairly tts). In the weird guy fit, the 34 fit me snugly and has stretched to the perfect level of comfort over the couple weeks I've been wearing them. I'm 6’3” and 215lb for reference.
If you've got questions about the product, reply to this post and I'll do my best to answer in a timely fashion.
Thanks for your interest in this product and supporting our collaborations!

DPD's talking about what Naked & Famous tends to do with runs of jeans that use limited kinds of denim, such as the one that is used for the Ichibans. "Special" means a specific origin and series of dyeing and processing decisions, which in turn lead to particular qualities in the finished denim, not simply labeling jeans as limited per se. Watch the Massdrop video and look for the wall of drastically different specimens.
A Massdrop rep also said that the Ichibans were the first of a projected series of jean collaborations, and that unsanforized denim (for example) would be offered at a later point.
WillWill, any word from N/F or news on production? The behind the scenes of making raw, selvedged denim is an awesome process, would love to get updates and info as production goes...
Hey folks, wanted to post some progress pics for everyone in the drop.
On the left is the pair I bought as part of this drop, received them at my place in Oakland last week they're brand new. On the right is the first production sample, which I've worn for 118 days. I did a rise (lukewarm water in a tub, scrubbed a bit, no soap/detergent) at 60 days, and a wash (washing machine on cold, dash of tide, machine dried) at 118 days.

Updated 10/23 Hi Everyone! I’m happy to announce the the jeans are 99% shipped. Thanks to everyone for their patience with this drop, and we're looking forward to hearing what you all think about the denim!
Updated 10/16 Hi All - I have a quick update on the remaining units of denim. The jeans arrived at the warehouse last Friday, and are now going through quality control check. We are on track to start shipping on 10/23.
I’ll update everyone on or by 10/23 with the status of the shipment.
Updated 10/9 Hi Everyone, We have an update on the remaining units of jeans. 70% of the orders have shipped, but we are still waiting on the final shipment from the vendor. These units are now expected to arrive by the end of this week. Once the jeans arrive at the warehouse they will go through the receiving process. Based on the amount of time this took for the initial batch, we expect the jeans to start shipping the week of 10/23. I apologize for the delay on this, and I can assure you the team is doing the best they can to get these jeans shipped to you. I will update everyone on or by 10/16 with the status of the shipment.

Updated 9/28 Hey all - I wanted to provide a quick update on this drop. Quality control has been completed for all serialized units under 500, and they will be shipping out within the next week. Unfortunately, we are still waiting on the remaining, higher serial number, pairs of jeans to arrive at the warehouse. I apologize for the miscommunication on my part in my last update, as I was under the impression it was all orders that had arrived. The remaining units are expected to arrive from the vendor within the next week and then will go through processing (quality control) and ship out. This means they should all be shipped out within 2-3 weeks, though the team will be prioritizing them and trying to get them out as early as possible. Sorry again for the miscommunication and for the delay. I will update you all on or by 10/9.
Updated 9/22 Hi Everyone! We have a quick update on the status of the Massdrop x Naked & Famous Ichiban Selvage Denim. All units have arrived at the warehouse and we wanted to give you a heads up that we’re going through the receiving process right now, and will be cutting it close to get these out right on the original ship date of 9/28. Each pair of jeans has to be unwrapped, quality checked and then repackaged. We are still aiming to have the denim start shipping out on the original ship date of 9/28, however there is a chance it might slip a few days. We apologize for this potential slight delay and we look forward to everyone receiving the first production of these jeans! We’ll provide an update next week to confirm an on time shipping, or with an updated date if it is delayed a few days.

MD received the return on 11/13. They promised a replacement would in the mail as soon as the return was on the way back to them but instead I am waiting over a week for them to reply to my messages and I still have no answers.
MD has failed me every step the way on this drop and has offered nothing but empty promises and virtually zero communication. I will definitely think twice before ordering here again.
je11yOh yeah, MassDrop has a reputation for having particularly shitty and unhelpful support, and particularly their projects delays/shipping issues/poor product management. It should be a disclaimer when you buy so people know what they're getting into ahead of time

I was going to try these, until I saw "Massdrop" on the leather label, which is a deal breaker. I wonder how many sales Massdrop loses simply because of their branding.

I would argue that the 427, which wasn't installed in non-Yenko models, was a pretty big boost in performance over stock. Power disk brakes were pretty hi-po in 1969, too, as were many of the other Yenko upgrades. When Yenko's badge went onto those cars, he had transformed them into something special, compared to the production models coming straight from Chevrolet.
Logistics aside, what role did Massdrop play in the design and production of these jeans? Are they made from some exclusive high tech graphene based denim? Is it a special pattern, so that the jeans are guaranteed to never be uncomfortable, no matter the sitting position? How did they make them better?

If you're new to raw denim, or are not familiar with Naked & Famous' fits, this is for you. You'll want to use the "Weird Guy Fit" instead of "Ichiban Selvage" as your reference fit if you need to look up fit comparisons, (it's even better if you could try them on.) Weird Guy Fit is slim from the thigh down with a taper in the lower leg for a really comfortable slim-but-not-skinny cut & is flattering for the lean athletic types. My Weird Guy's are the most comfortable pair of denim I own. Two years running, no crotch blowouts with 3-5 days a week wear, & my fades came out nice enough that I can still wear them as business casual.
search
Beware lifters - Weird Guy Fit may restrict movement by being too slim in all the areas of the leg, crotch, & butt/glutes areas.
TL;DR The Weird Guy Fit is the most reliable, "Not-spray-paint-on-skinny-But-still-slim-and-flattering" cut. My body size is 5'10" 160 lbs., I swim regularly, & run a couple 5K's each week. The following should be taken with a grain of salt, as it compares the Weird Guy Fit to two other popular denim fits.
APC - New Standard & Petite New Standard Fit: New Standards are a skinnier jean in the lower leg & have less room in the seat & waist, though they share Weird Guy Fit's room in the thigh. If you have skinnier legs & no glutes, then these are a decent consideration for fit, but have a spandex-ey "stretch" to them - watch out, (my butt/glutes looks like I'm wearing leggings.) Even with that stretch though, they are very soft & I've actually found them durable because of that. TL;DR I treat my Petite New Standards as street-wear. APC New Standards / Petite New Standards don't fit well in business-casual environments unless you're a twig & I'm less likely to wear them on a night out vs. my Weird Guy Fit unless I want to make sure I'm ID'd every single time I walk up to the bar.
Unbranded - Tapered, UB201 Fit: While the Weird Guy Fit are a great fit for the office, Unbranded's Tapered Fit UB201 is a 14.5 oz. durable Jean that is the ultimate pair of work jeans. While the UB201's & Weird Guy Fit have the same room in the thigh, the UB201's are a heftier pair of pants, they have a larger seat / more room in the crotch, & have less of a tapered bottom leg compared to the Weird Guy Fit. The UB201's also start off much stiffer because of their weight to break-in, which I found great for trips through the great outdoors. Though the Unbranded pair took longer to break-in & aren't as soft, they are MUCH more durable than my Weird Guy's. TL;DR For those under 6 foot & not leg-day lifters; Unbranded's break-in process is more uncomfortable due to the higher waist, as they really dug into my hips - you will not find stretch here. TL;DR For those over 6 foot & bodybuilders; I still swear on the Weird Guy Fit for taller guys too, but Unbranded has better scaling & SPECIFICALLY has fits for althetes, dedicated lifters, and bodybuilders. Taller guys will have a more comfortable break-in than us shorter folks with Unbranded, but beware the stiffness.
I'd really like to know if this was helpful or not - feedback is always appreciated.

Hey there Panda - I was actually wrong, I ordered mine in 32. I would recommend getting that if you're confident you normally wear a 32, I might have ordered a different pair in 31's though.

One word: Branding. I'm all for this, but Massdrop plastering its name across the denim is sadly....cringe.
Massdrop isn't Supreme. No matter where you wear these jeans, people will know it for the discounted stuff it is. Save yourself your money and actually buy a legit N&F when they go on sale.... which is actually more often than you think (i've scored many for $80)
I'd consider $20 max for this branded garbage (sorry for the words, but that is the best description). Because the Massdrop branding actually takes a lot away. If massdrop wants to increase their awareness, it shouldn't be through plastering their name across your jeans.
If you are really in a hurry, a lot of brands are selling cheap and stylish selvedge including H&M Edition, and Uniqlo. Right off the shelf all WITHOUT THEIR VERY OWN BRANDING (huh? you say?)

When "the people" exclaim "wow BrainFlush, you thread the belt under the label!" They don't mean it the way you think they do... It's like when they say "Bless you BrainFlush, you tuck your shirt in your underpants!" They mean they will love you despite, not because, your crimes against humanity...

For the benefit of anyone looking at this drop, I just spent some time measuring the jeans I got from the previous drop (38"), comparing it to the stated size, and to a few other pairs of pants/jeans I have which fit me.
Seems like the N+F jeans run ~2" larger than the size chart. I'll be getting a 36" this time round, may try and sell the 38" if the 36" fits better.

These look great, but whichever genius came up with the idea of a button fly needs to be beaten with a stick. Those things are the absolute worst and a deal breaker at any price. Please release a zipper version for normal people who don't like to wrestle with their pants at the urinal. Thanks.
There are a number of raws with zippers, the crotch doesn't shrink or stretch much, mostly because of how many seams there are in the area. Zippers work fine on raw, an especially 'pre-shrunk' sanforized raws like this pair, but even unsanforized denims typically won't see too many issues with zippers. The reason button-fly is associated with raw is because it is seen as vintage and aesthetically fitting of the culture of raws

clownworldI hate buttons also. But then again, I do just drop my shorts to my ass when I use the urinal. Makes it look very sexual yet intense and yet no one ever says anything. Buttons be nothing to me.

I am not seeing any where to offer feedback for this product so I guess I will start one here.
1) Quality seems to be an issue with this run. I think both Massdrop and Naked and Famous were under fire to get these out and shipped on time. I don't believe this quality is indicative of what either company is capable of. Sept 28th estimated ship date might have been a bit aggressive (given the size of this PO) to do a thorough quality inspection. -Nothing is worse then being late then being late and of poor quality. -Don't underestimate the power of proper communication and setting the expectation. I would not have had any problem if back in August I was notified that production was running behind. However, we were kept in the dark throughout this whole process and didn't receive any product update till 9/22.
2) The serialized number means nothing for several reasons. -The location. Put the serial number on the leather patch or not at all. -The actual number has nothing to do with me. For a product that becomes so personalized through wear I think the serial number should be personal too. I think that the serial number should be within at least a 100 from the order of when we made our purchase. I believe I was in the low 400s. I should not have gotten a serial number of 1062. You have our transaction ID numbers, keep this number with our individual purchase.
All things considered, this really was not that bad of a drop and I think both Massdrop and Naked and Famous can learn a lot from this. I hope to see another collaboration in the near future with a better and more organized process.

Aaron_SI want to piggy back on everything you say to keep this feed back easy to find.
Any time wasted on the serial numbers was a waste. If it was unit 5 of 100 it might be cool, but the tag location nullifies it regardless.
I lucked out out and the jeans fit, I also lost 18 lbs since I ordered and would be SOL if I hadn’t- they are a close but good fit.
I like Naked and Famous, and Masdrop working with a quality company is a good direction. No more Chinese made jeans for +$100 now that we know a company can turn a profit at this price.
I would have have preferred they remove the co branding and put the extra few dollars that cost into upgrading the materials or hardware. Or better still develop a pair that was unique for massdrop (like the N&F Kevlar). I would have paid an extra few bucks to kick them up a notch.
Lastly the shipping was almost an insult. It took 10 days for the package to travel across about 5 states, that coupled with the shipping delay was very annoying.
I would like to see this drop again but add $25 to cover an upgraded product and pay someone to tell us what is going on.

Aaron_SI was one of the first to order these and got stiffed with the serial number, which like you and others have said doesn't really matter since it was scrawled on a tag with a crayon. Regardless, when a company uses the word "guaranteed" it should hold some weight. The real issue is with the crappy stitching.
MD has promised a replacement pair; somehow with a lower serial number which I'm sure has no actual indication of the order it was produced in. They can choose any number they please and go to work with their crayons, but as long as the stitching isn't crap I'll let it slide. MD, if you're listening (doubtful) I'll take #69 since there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the numbering. They have completely ignored my request for an explanation of the serial number inconsistency.
