I can't wait to replace my cracklehieser headset mic with this!
I also might just paint the CR30 because I'm not a huge fan of the polished finish on it.
I have a single CR89 in my studio, will probably join the drop to get a second for stereo and harmony applications in the studio. I can't speak for the 30, as I don't have any, but the 89 is a superb piece of equipment. With a pop filter and some normal bass rolloff, you can get right up to the mic and it basically just warms up the sound - the proximity effect comes on smoothly and gently only very very close. Plus it looks beautiful on its included shock mount, and the case is solid - I would consider this a very serious mic, and worth it for studio work at twice the price. And no, I don't work for MXL, and have never got anything from them for free.
Squeeble Is anything else included with this? I know you said you you got the 89 and not the 30, but... I'm seeing a bundle on a certain [Amazonian] website with the CR30 for $199. It includes Case, Shock Mount, Pop Filter, XLR Cable, and Boom Stand. Yours arrived with the shock mount only? You mentioned a case, but I'm not sure you meant a carrying case.
LucasV-KMine came with mic, shock mount, spare springy band for the shock mount, cleaning cloth and foam-lined, fitted hard (metal) carry case. Everything oozed solid quality.
