I purchased a TM26 from MassDrop in 2014...used it once, impressed the friends. Put it in a drawer, the following year (hunting season) one of the 4 lights would not illuminate. While it was bright the UI isn't intuitive and that failure rate is pathetic. Never dropped, never damaged.../boggle as to why one of the emitters would have failed so easily. Too expensive for something with such low quality.

All right you did well! 👍
I will share a secret: I too, have to send something back, and have been consistently procrastinating instead.
Indeed I upgraded my work laptop to a 2016 MacBook Pro 13 Retina about six months ago, and have still not sent the old Lenovo back to home office. I don't even have to go to UPS, but just bring it to the office for them to send it, but I'm just too lazy to do it (I have to lug around two laptops to the office and I use the bus and the metro, that's why).
This week I'll do it, I've decided, to follow your good example 😁

BobrazDon't even stress it. Mine is the fact MD treats me so well. They didn't even yell at me about it. But it's finally done and off my shoulders. Do as you need to do! :D

If you look you can find a higher lumen light on eBay. This is made in China. I have purchased a 25000 light for 30$. Has 10 t6 leds and also takes 4 18650 batteries. Aluminium body . I'm sick of people getting ripped off bye company's for things that sell for way less.

Bigtman739I hate to burst your bubble but most likely that $30 light doesn't put out even half of the claimed lumens. Max output for the cree xml t6 is about 1000 max lumens so the most that light could have would be 10,000 lumens. I highly doubt a $30 light puts out more than 2500 lumens. If it did put out those claimed lumens everyone in the flashlight community would be all over it and I've never heard of a 25,000 lumen light for anywhere close to that price. I think you're misguided in your rant, alot of research and development goes into these high lumen lights and nitecore sells pretty good quality lights. They also don't claim outlandish outputs and follow ANSI FL1 lumen standards. If you want a great deal on a similar light I would recommend getting the BLF Q8, it was designed by the budget light forum, puts out 5000 lumens, has decent throw, and costs around $65 on amazon.

Since the last time this dropped, I ended up purchasing the BLF Q8 5000LM as Jas260 recommended and I could not be happier. MUCH less expensive and still a fantastic piece of kit, crazy bright. I may end up picking up a DX80 as well... admittedly, this LED flashlight hobby is slightly addictive. :-)

WOW, nice.. on my way to pre-order after this post. :-) I love the size/feel of the 26650 lights . I have the Lumitop ODF30 and other than a somewhat limited UI, it's a great light. I have a couple cheap 26650 cells and they leave something to be desired, run the ODF30 in turbo for very little time. Will have to pick up some quality cells as well. Thanks for the heads up!

The D4 is a solid torch i have one as well, however the throw on this TM28 (~740 yards) combined with the 100,000+ candela AND combined with its high lumen output makes it by far the single greatest flashlight handdown

Please let this drop pass you by. The TM28 is poorly built with springs at the cathode that can 't prevent the batteries from losing contact when you set it down upright or even shake it, making the light turn off.

there are lots of customer reviews that fail to mention your spring issue. nitecore has a 5 year warranty and they are one of the few high end flashlight companies out there. the tm28 is an absolute beast, and i don’t need some hourly job with no benefits selling flashlights to tell you that!

candela is density of light, lumen is how bright the light is... on candela is in a given direction, of a source that emits monochromatic radiation of frequency 540×1012 hertz and that has a radiant intensity in that direction of 1/683 watt per steradian. it is different with Lumen...which is candela * sr( square radian ).
break it down...it is basically like this.. Lumen is how bright the light can put out candela is how far this brightness can carry on. High lumen≠High candela
The GT is a large light, but it is still using 18650 batteries... It is larger than most light for sure but it is still a hand hold light.

I got this flashlight a few years ago along with the Game of Thrones The Hound's Helm from Thinkgeek for about the same price for both combined. So.. not really a good deal. And there's no way the retail price of this thing is $479. Nitecore's own website sells this flashlight, along with their high density battery pack, for less than that.

There's lots of flashlights on Ebay and other places that say they put out 6000 lumens or even 10,000 lumens. These flashlights are less than $10. How does this differ? Are those sellers exaggerating the performance of their flashlights?

ReggieMbecause nitecore don't lie as much as ebay sellers... Some ebay sellers might be talking the total LED lumin which is not realistic, you need to see how much does those lumin can actually come out front...also, you are not just buying for the lumin...there are also tint, UI, CD and water/dust proof you need to look into.

Yep, it is very much a thing. I have a Gemini Duo 1500. People use them for Enduro races, or trail riding at night. I bought mine for a Canoe race that goes through the night. But Gemini, Light and Motion, and others sell models that go to 4000 lumen and above.

Wow I did not even know they have up dated to 6,000Lm. I have a TM26 (same body and screen) that puts out 4,000lm, it is amazingly bright. It has held up very well to many drops, splashes, even used it under shallow water for 5 minutes, only a little condensation in the lens.
This is a good light, I recommend it. Very expensive, but it will last a long time and has a lot of nice features, like the display. I'm not going to upgrade from my Tm26 yet, but I would buy this Tm28 if I were to lose my Tm26.

When I say cheap I mean low cost vs the quality. It's high quality with a medium to low price tag

MainStreamingOne thing I've learned in life: Cheap work is never good, good work is never cheap! I knew exactly what you meant - basically I was saying: I don't mind spending for the good stuff - in retrospect, don't quite know why I didn't just word it that way in the first place! Anyway, I do love good tips on products, and I very much appreciate it!
