Able to detect the color of any surface and provide accurate information directly to a smartphone or tablet, the Nix Mini and Pro color sensors take the work out of trying to match or determine colors with swatches or sight. The device is ideal for interior designers, digital designers, architects, or anyone looking to paint their home Read More
Sorry I'm jumping in too late, but I'd advise caution here...
I funded the Nix Kickstarter and have two of them. They've never worked. At all. The first one they sent me would never sync with any bluetooth device, so they sent me another one. That one would sometimes power on and send a color reading to the app. That color had absolutely no relation to the surface it was on. For example, putting the Nix sensor on white wall and it would tell the app that the color is purple or brown.
After repeated emails to the company for support - which went unanswered - I finally gave up.
Beware, folks...
How about you folks offer to give me my money back and pay for the time that I've wasted rather than "generously" offering to go through the same process again?
At this point, I'd settle for just getting my money back and write off the time wasted as educational.
degleepNot all Kickstarters are successful but I do think your commentary. I was skeptical about it and never would get it. This post ensures that I won't.
Hi Yirg,
It's Matt here from Nix. The Mini and Pro don't have native color calibration built in for printers, but you can scan a print to find it's exact color and then feed that data back into your workflow software such as Photoshop or Illustrator to tweak the values.
The Pro also has a built in Delta E 2000 calculator so you can do a QC check on any physical object's color.
If you have any questions or comments please don't hesitate to ask. You can post here, call our office at 905 581 6363 or email us at info@nixsensor.com
Thanks!
Thanks! There are so many different uses for the Nix Mini and Pro but one simple way of thinking about it is that it's "the Photoshop Eyedropper in real life". You can "steal" colors from your surroundings and use them however you might like in the digital world.
Hello, I am interested in the pro version and had a question regarding its use. Must the device lay completely flat on the surface color being read? How big is the area in question? What is maximum distance the device can be used at to measure a proper reading? I am asking in regards to remodeling jobs where my customers often have objects that they wish to color match but have odd, uneven, or small dimensions such as floor/crown moldings, furniture, textured walls, etc. Thank you.
yofaceHi! The device should lay flat on the surface for the best results. The patented Nix shape blocks out all ambient light and provides it's own calibrated light source inside. The measurement area is ~14mm diameter.
Hopefully that answers your questions! If you have any more please don't hesitate to reach out.
Cheers,

I work in a historical restoration firm. We needed something to take on a job site and discern a color. I got the green light to grab a Nix Pro and it has surprised all of us in the office. We've sent out paint chips for analysis and compared the results to the Nix scans. Near matches for most and some are spot on. For the price, mobility, and ease of use I don't think we could have gotten anything better.
Great ptoduct, I have one and have now bought another for a vety good interior designer I know who thinks it is the Bomb!
Well-done Massdrop for bringing it, and thank you so much Nix for making this little magic gadget.
Well it looks like I'm not the only one that thinks this product and the company behind it are NOT READY FOR PRIMETIME.
Doc included in product minimal, website referenced in documentation has NO mention of this product, when you ask for a manual you are sent to a website that is not referenced in the main website or in the documentation and all it has is larger print version of the include instruction sheet.
UNSAT
Any company that produces a product that they don't send a complete manual with the product is obligated to provide access to a complete manual and in addition some kind of FAQ. As best I can determine the companies idea of a manual business card 5 panel "instruction" sheet - heck they don't even tell to to match your bluetooth with the product.
UNSAT
So at this point I have to take time out of my work day to call them to "try" and get this item to work with my phone.

First of all I just wanted to say thanks for your business. I'll try and help out as best as I can.
Do you have a Nix Pro Color Sensor or a Nix Mini Color Sensor?
It sounds like you have a Nix Mini Color Sensor,
The apps for the Mini can be found at https://nixmini.com/apps/
Unfortunately you are right, the FAQs are hard to find, they are at: https://nixsensor.com/nix-faq/
We are working to combine the two websites in the next few weeks to make this a lot more clear.
