The Cayin Fantasy YD01 IEM is a unique entry in the earphone space, thanks in large part to its dual-cavity design. The single 10.3-millimeter, beryllium-plated driver in each earbud provides enough loudness and power on its own—but because there are two separate cavity chambers in each enclosure (one front-facing, and the other rear-facing to even out the pressure), there’s a unique focus and richness to the sound Read More

A single driver on an 800$ IEM? interesting. It seems to be built well. I love the shape, reminds me a lot of my FH7s but a single driver is a deal breaker for me at this price even at 300$.
RubyInfernoSennheiser and others are doing well with single driver designs. Unlike balanced armatures, dynamic drivers can have greater excursion and (in headphones) reach the full range of audible frequencies, so they don’t need multiple drivers. Balanced armatures are like little leaves 🍃 fluttering inside of boxes, and many manufacturers combine several BA’s so that they can work in parallel to displace more air.
I have not heard this Cayin, but generally speaking the crossovers in multi-driver designs have disadvantages to consider, meanwhile multi-driver IEMs without crossovers have been unusually sensitive to background hiss. So there are pros and cons, but I wouldn’t immediately disregard single dynamic driver IEMs.
Seems you are mostly paying for the materials on these. Which, yes, they are top-grade in build, but it would have been nice to see at least a single balanced armature driver to handle some of the highs and fix the over-emphasis these have in that region. the IKKO OH10 can be had for $100 less (or 120 less on drop right now) and are also made of metal, also have a good 10mm dynamic driver for lows, but has a BA driver for highs. This Cayin YD01 seems like the same thing minus the BA driver and for more money. At the new "low" price point of $300 this YD01 still seems a bit on the overpriced side compared to their competition, and for $500+ is just absurd.
Question: nozzle diameter is...? (metric, please :p )
Asking 'cause I'd like to buy these but it looks quite large and I already had issues with JVC HA-FDX1 nozzle being definitely too large for my ear canals :-(
thanks
