I've noticed a handful of people who have had issues with the glow feature becoming extremely dim. Mine won't light up more than an inch or so on either side. Does anyone know what might be going on with these? Is it the LED's becoming dim or the fiber-optic tube cracking or something? I did take mine apart and the only thing I noticed was that the shrink wrap around the led and light pipe had receded slightly from the led, but I wasn't sure if that'd be enough to cause the whole thing to stop working.
KM1337I'm having this exact same issue, and would love to know why it's happening. I would wager it's the fiber optic. It's very sad, because at first it was bright and amazing.
mike-marshallI am pretty convinced it is in fact the fiber optic cable. I ordered a replacement 3mm fiber optic cable (~$14) off of the Amazons and when I test fit the new cable (twice as long as the one the mat comes with) the whole thing lit up. Now it's just a matter of re-threading or otherwise re-attaching the cable... the strings holding the current light pipe on are not very strong once you remove the cable from them and I have already made a few (small) irreversible damages to the mat. From what I was able to see with the old fiber optic cable, where it attached to the RGB control unit was very cloudy compared to the rest, I wonder if rolling the mat up or moving it too much simple stressed the material too much?
I've noticed what looks like some kind of discolouration in my mat. There are several splotchy dark areas on it. I'll have to upload an image when I'm home but I'm curious how I would go about trying to clean this? Do I just use a wet cloth or some kind of cleaning agent?
Oh man... I just got mine today, but it was the wrong version. :(
I ordered a glow deskmat but I got a regular deskmat.
FOLLOWUP EDIT:
I'm returning the deskmat that I got back to Drop. Ordered the correct Glow version from NovelKeys today.
Have to say, this was my first time interacting with Mass/Drop support however, and it was a pretty good experience.
after looking at this for a few days, photoshopping a laser board onto it i finally couldn't resist. biting the shipping-bullet but it'll be worth it! by the time this big ass carpet will arrive i hopefully will have a new desk big enough to fit it on :-)
it's more of a crappy paint than a photoshop job ;) mine will be a white tkl, but i put a rendered black one next to it for you. scaling should be about right.
I pointed this out just now over at the wrist rest drop, but the "retail" pricing on this is really misleading in terms of how it presents the discount we're getting:
search
They've put the glow mat retail price next to the base mat Massdrop price. The actual pricing is:
Base mat: $20 retail, $15 Massdrop (25% discount, not 50%)
Glow mat: $30 retail, $25 Massdrop (17% discount, which is standard for NovelKeys' glow mat GBs)
If this really is an innocent error, I'm sure it will be corrected soon.
paryz17I think it's LEDs in the plastic base at the top and a fiberglass tube stitched to the outside rim. I don't hear anything, but I do notice the colors are different in the corners than along the sides, especially with the magenta color, when I turn on the godpseed pink glow mat I just got recently.
