For Seattle Sombrero . 4 stars just because I didn't get rain yet. Size S in my case run smaller than S. Or I need to break it in. Keeping in mind it has great special internal adjustable Cinch-Band size up and adjust it and have more room in wore underhat for cold weather.
tested in 4 days continious rain. EXCELENT!!! Wore it in combination of OR Helium2 Rain Jacket.
Excellant hat for rainy weather. It has a bit of heavy feel which makes it great for wet weather or possibly snow but, it is a bit heavy for everyday normal wear in sunny and warm environments. For myself, this hat makes a great combination for a travel kit with a light windbreaker or rain coat while on vacation, personal or business travel.
As mentioned elsewhere, sizing is a bit tight for the listed specification. I wear a 7 1/8 in Tilley hats and this one is a bit snug for a Medium though, that could be an advantage in windy conditions so, whether this is a Pro or Con depends on your intended use. For me, I left a 5 star rating since this is a wet and inclement weather hat where loosing it to the wind is more likely so the snug fit is a benefit to me.
Finally, the green color with black accents works very well for me in a wide variety of settings and is easy to color coordinate with other clothing, jackets, etc.
My first Outdoor Research anything and I'm very pleased with the Ghost Rain Hat. Fit was spot on and converts very easy from rain mode to sunny style. I rated it very high because I feel it is very durable, high quality, priced right and will last for a long while. So far the ( Charcoal Grey) color has not faded or changed and the shape holds well and will change to my liking if needed. Not being negative at all but I prefer to use it in 3 of the cooler, damp and rainy seasons as opposed to hot and bright days even though the brim keeps the sun out of my face very well. I'm a little hot natured and tend to sweat with it on during the hotter months even converted to summer mode. I would recommend this brand and style to anyone.
This is my second OR rain hat. Bought my first Seattle Sombrero some 35+ years ago and it is still going strong. Went with the Ghost Hat this time around. Deducted one star for what I feel is less that ideal ventilation. Hoped to use it sailing, but is often too warm.
(Haven't tried it in rain yet)
Since it gets very hot in the summer where I live, I was worried it's "waterproofness" will make it too warm for summer use. However, once you fold the cover, the ventilated mesh provides great airflow, which in combination with the wide brim makes it a very good hat for summer.
