Was thinking about giving Topre switches a try. Anyone have experience between this and:
Leopold FC660C ABKO K945P ABKO K945P v2 (what's the difference between this and v1 anyways ?) Novatouch TKL
?
Any input on these would be appreciated.

That "90 million lifetime clicks" is pretty mad...
Theres a software to allow this keyboard to be programmable so I really recommend this to anyone. I'm using the Plum84 variant.

I am sure they will feel very different because this is 35g and the novatouch is 45g. I owned a RealForce 87 that I modified to all 35g by swapping in the membrane of a Special Edition Japanese RealForce that was all 35g, and I also owned a Novatouch. The RealForce was awesome to type on for me since I like light weight switches, but the Novatouch was very fatiguing. The Novatouch switches felt too heavy to me, but I have wrist issues and I type all day (Software Dev), so it may be different experience for others. The only negative about the RealForce for me was the keycap profile, too tall and small finger pad. Another difference between this in the Novatouch are the keycaps. The Novatouch includes very cheap and light feeling keycaps while this includes pbt which usually feels more solid and gives a better typing experience. Of course that can be easily changed out but it is more money.

As I post every time these boards come up: if you don't like the 35g domes don't worry, you can get 45g, 55g, or now even 65g domes from Korea! http://www.ebay.com/itm/112137004390
I put the 55g domes in my boards and they are great!

So in researching the pricing on the Plum 87--can't assume MD has the best prices--I found out about the Plum 87 waterproof, which is in the "floating" style that I like. Any idea if that keyboard is any less moddable than the Plum 87 here ?

I think Plum is dropping the ball a little bit by not having anything other than 35g variants easily found for purchase here in the US. If there was a 45g or preferably a 55g version of this in this I'd be in for one in a heartbeat. Not only that but I'd imagine they be pretty popular within the community being a more affordable electro capacitive switch based board than Topre.

From my understanding based on reading keyboard forums in Korea and Japan, they seem to prefer the lighter actuation weight more than 55g variant. I don't have any numbers to back this observation though.

Rob27shredThey sell 45g variants at the NIZ website and if you want 55 or 65 you can buy a dome sheet from eBay and swap them easily.

bODONote that it's easy to break the board end in which you put the screw if you screw too hard. I broke two :) Don't force your way in, this is definitely not a board meant for heavy modding or regular openings....

Well MassDrop if there was ever a crossover we (I) need. It would be you guys asking Plum to make this board available in different case colors but most importantly with 100g domes. Ok fine, I'll settle for at least 55g.
Seriously. Do this. Make us happy. And God forbid, you might sell 1k units on the first try. I know I'll buy it. ;)

I was talking about the springs mrvco mentioned, but that would work too. I haven't seen anything like that for topre style boards before.

BrainFlushI bought this the last time it was on here, and I ended up replacing the dome sheet with a 55g one. I kind of wish I'd have gone with the 65g sheet, but I have no complaints about the 55g, I'm just a fairly heavy typer. There's a video on YouTube how to do it, and it's actually pretty easy.
A handful of the springs that go on top of the switch come with kb. I think like 10-15? I use some under the left side modifiers as I use them for gaming and need them heavier as to not accidentally press them. They work well.

I wrote this on the RC930 V2 drop, but I will write this here too just to inform people of other choices available. Just a little discovery, there are capacitive keyboards in gmarket that are actually just rebranded RC930 V2s/PLUMs. Pretty much a PLUM with 50g: http://item2.gmarket.co.kr/English/detailview/item.aspx?goodscode=819410264 TKL RGB 55g: http://item2.gmarket.co.kr/English/detailview/item.aspx?goodscode=714386334 108 RGB 55g: http://item2.gmarket.co.kr/English/detailview/item.aspx?goodscode=794246522 108 RGB 62g :http://item2.gmarket.co.kr/English/detailview/item.aspx?goodscode=906663581 108 RGB White 50g: http://item2.gmarket.co.kr/English/detailview/item.aspx?goodscode=831734371
FYI: To purchase from gmarket internationally with your credit card, you will need to get authorised, else your order will be cancelled automatically. Here are the steps on how I got authorized, I can't say for sure these are the exact steps since they don't really have the procedures written anywhere. 1. I sent an email to fcard@corp.gmarket.co.kr to request authorisation, with my name, gmarket ID and contact number, I also sent them a photo of my identity card just in case. 2. They replied and requested an authorization code for the order that was recently cancelled for me(because the payment wasn't authorized), from my card/bank company. (Perhaps you can send them the codes in your first email to save time.) 3. So I contacted my bank about this matter, and they replied pretty quickly, they seemed pretty aware of what's going on, so they gave me the codes for all of my failed gmarket transactions. 4. I sent the code back to fcard@corp.gmarket.co.kr , for some reason they responded within minutes.
I'm not too sure what they would request for if you haven't made a failed transaction before, but they will probably let you know after you sent that first email.

Hm, in my credit card transaction details I can see this info: " GMARKET 6*****8 6*****8SEOUL" That's a 7 digit number that I censored. Maybe that is the code?? That number matches neither with the order number nor the with the shipment number

Seems like a contradiction: "Thanks to anti-ghosting technology and six-key rollover, this Plum Keyboard will recognize each and every key press. "

rextasyYou are correct. The six-key rollover IS the anti-ghosting technology. It's just fancy sales writing (and also not very good anti-ghosting technology).

Are these " electro capacitive switches" basically Topre switches? I really love the RF 87U typing experience, does this compare to it favorably?

I may be way off on this but it is my opinion. I had this and returned it to Amazon. If you think you are getting a cheap Topre board, you are not. I own 6 Topre and Leopold boards and this is not them. It is also cheaper. The keys were not very uniform on my copy. Some made completely different sounds then others. It also does not sound like a Topre board. I replaced mine with 45g sheet and it did not make too much of a difference. Mine had silencer rings but if you remove then, it makes quite a big plastic on plastic sound. Do not get me wrong. It is ok for what it is but I just want to keep expectations in check a little bit. It is what it is. I also have the RGB version of the 84 that has the arrow keys built in, with no spaces. It is ok as well. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Ghosts. I was wondering what was constantly making the windows warning sound even when not touching the keyboard, then I saw that every once in a while a \ would type itself into the start menu search.

gclevelandIn addition, I would also like to add that they are definitely scratchier in both feel and sound compared to, say, the Novatouch or Topre RGB.

Electrostatic capacitive switches are a little faster than basic bitch Cherry and Cherry-esque switches, but it is a relatively close race. The OmniPoint switch in the Apex Pro TKL's are multiple times faster. That's the switch itself. All the other variables can easily make that not matter at all. For example- How your fingers rest above the key, how quickly you push the key, how much weight there is in the key press, how close the actuation point is, how fast the controller accepts and sends out the signal, how you are plugged into the computer. If I were after speed for gaming, the first component I would optimize, after the GPU (for the specific game) of course, would be the monitor. As LinusTechTips demonstrated a few years ago or so, the speed of your display matters a lot. We are talking up to several kills per game in your favor when playing an FPS game against someone of equal skill, if they are only gaming at 60hz and you're on the bleeding edge. So, there is a good excuse to use a high refresh rate display. If I had to put together a fast keyboard setup, though- I would probably just find the fastest gaming keyboard I could that supports plugging into a PS/2 port. PS/2 ports send a direct hardware interrupt to the CPU, so it is going to outdraw USB no matter what. The problem is that less motherboards support PS/2 these days, and companies selling keyboards have little to no incentive to mention support for it, given that keyboards have been using USB en masse since 1998. If the Apex Pro TKL supported PS/2, it would be a solid candidate. Me, myself, though? Right now? I wouldn't worry too much about the speed of the keyboard. I also wouldn't piss on Steelseries if they were on fire, though that is a discussion for another day.
