June 24 Update: I wanted to give everyone a quick update on the Preonic orders. There has been a delay in delivery of a couple components that are required to create the PCBA. We are expecting this to delay the expected ship date of the Preonic by around a month. The new ship date from our warehouse will be August 15th instead of earlier mentioned July 15th. We are working closely with the manufacturer to improve on the ship date, and are hopeful that we can move this up as we make progress. We’ll keep the community updated in this thread.
July 23rd Update: Asked the vendor for an update today and they said they're running a few days behind. We've built some buffer into our schedule, so for now August 15th is still the ship date that we're working towards. I'll update again in about a week to see whether the manufacturer has caught up, is on track, or has fallen further behind.
July 28th Update: Asked the vendor for another update, and they've pushed their "Ready" date back yet again. Originally it was end of July then it was August 4th (which we still felt okay with the August 15th ship date), but now we're hearing August 10th. So assuming August 10th is the correct date, we won't be hitting the August 15th ship date, (it typically takes 10-15 days to get from the factory in China, board a plane, land in the USA, clear customs, get trucked to our warehouse, and then be counted/shelved and ready to ship out). So, best guess right now is August 20-25th range, and we'll get more clarity around August 5th about how things are lining up. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but want to keep you guys up to date with the latest happenings.
KevinI just came here to see the obligatory delay. Every single order I took on Drop got one month delay, this happens, but please consider always add a month to the estimated shipping date on the product page, seriously. In the end nobody will be mad at you if you ship a month early.
FriskyBusiness1Good thing there's no pandemic that caused factories to be shut down having no knock on effects. Also a good thing that it's a definite date and not an estimate. Drop does have an issue due to being optimistic and they need to be a bit more conservative with their estimates but they're just that. People should come to expect it to not be 100% when the ship date is like 4 month down the line anyways.
HunterishuntedSounds like people making a mistake by taking the date seriously and DROP are just a bunch of too optimistic people. But drop could nearly always just add a month, especially during a pandemic, that's all my comment was about. If we can see it they probably should see it too.
HunterishuntedPREACH! Drop has, very rarely imo, ever hit their eta. They should add at least 2 weeks onto it so people are pleasantly surprised if it arrives sooner and not unhappy when its "on time" (read: late)
KevinIs there a reason you don't send us order updates when you delay and Instead I have to come dig through discussion on the product page? It seems like you should just send me an update hey your shipping has been bumped to X so I am not constantly like huh did Drop screw me or did they just delay like every single thing I buy?
Spikeophanti would also greatly appreciate pushed updates. I assumed the shipping estimate was optimistic, so I wasn't really expecting it, but I've just twiddling my thumbs for a week wondering what's happening.
gwilladSurprisingly, we've done that in the past and we get a non-trivial amount of email unsubscribe requests. Certain "very important" updates we do mail out, but the smaller incremental ones we do not. Keep in mind you might see 10 (or 20, or 30) people in the discussions asking for more updates (or push updates), but there's hundreds of people that aren't asking for that.
I've put in a request with our web team to allow for more granular communication options but there list is pretty big so this isn't the highest priority right now.
Just wanted to let you know we've thought about it, but for now this is the best (not great) solution.
KevinIf I may make a suggestion, I'd love to see the "estimated ship date" on the transactions page update when there's news that changes the date. There are already plenty of email settings - maybe a new one could be to choose whether or not to get an email when that estimated ship date changes.
FantomfreqRealistically the answer behind this (whether you observe it or not) is that our business over the last 3 years has shifted from ~80% group buy and 20% in-stock, to flip to 80% in-stock and 20% group buy. That trend will continue. We're heavily investing in inventory and supply chain management so that most/all of our products are just sold off the shelf like "a normal e-commerce business". This means that things like managing the communication of production updates becomes obsolete. You might even see Preonic's on Amazon one day!
Kevinhonestly idc the pushbacks dont bother me that much since i am actually getting updates :) (although it would be great to have the kb rn) pls keep letting us know any new updates
flinkinkI feel like they work around the clock to make it happen as early as possible and surprise us with possitve news or maybe it is the other way around :D
