F&F are good. The blade is centered and sharp. Nice jimping on the blade and the lock bar. The blade will shave, but not a well as my disposable Bic. It opens very easily, but will not drop shut....unless you really shake it. The lock up is good, about 30%. If you like this, I can't think of any reason not to get one, unless you have too many knives. As I said, I can't think of any reason not to get one.
Wicked_RidgeI have not, as yet disassembled this, so I don't know. However, lack of knowledge will not stop me from guessing. Based on the price of the knife and having some knives on bearings, I will say that this has washers. I couldn't find any statements, but Nick S. took an H6-S1 apart. it was running on a thicker plastic washer (Nick called it Delrin) and a very thin phosphobronze washer. I would think this model would have the same set up. The pivot screw on mine came loose easily, but I could only rotate the back two about 1/8 of a turn before they felt like they hit a brick wall. I didn't go get the heat. (Nick stated that there was locktite on the screws on the model that he was working on.) After opening the front, I dropped some Blue Lube into it and on the detente ball. That improved the action.
You could do a LOT worse than this for the price. Real Steel is known for having solid heat treatments and they select great steels for their budget knives. This guy was a little to big for my baby hands, but there really isn't a single negative I can think of. It's a great knife at a great price.
For $30, I probably should be giving this knife a better rating. Pro’s: solid build, sharp out of box, good feel in the hand, action is okay. Cons: action is just okay (has to be kept very clean or it gets terrible, screws seem soft, and the knife is heavy. Overall, I think it’s built to withstand fairly heavy use. I think I could run the knife over and it would be okay. If you need a tool in your pocket to use free of cost concern, I would definitely recommend this knife. One thing to note is the action, out of the box, it was not good at all. After a clean and lube, it was much better. But, within a day or two, it was back to being rough. I don’t believe I’m using too much oil, and compounding my problem; it just seems like the action is very finicky. I’ve adjusted screw tension, different oils, no oil, nothing seems to long term cure. It just may be a knife that requires some upkeep to run its best. Upkeep is usually okay with me, but the wear on the screws is a bit of a concern as they seem to almost want to strip. I do like the look of the knife and it’s a decent slicer considering it’s blade thickness.
This is definitely a large folder with a great edge. Blade is centered. I’m not a fan of thumb studs, but I could not resist To give this one a try. This is surprisingly good knife.
