Alright just got mine, pretty impressed with the overall quality for the price, the keycaps are, as expected from RK, amazing and the lights are just gorgeous.
Out of the box you'll probably start hitting keys and feel like this is more of a linear board, but once you start typing you actual get to feel the bump at the top of the key activation which is very pleasant.
I'd lie if I didn't say I already opened up to try some keys out without the preinstalled dental bands. The benefit of removing the dental band is getting more of a 'thock' with a more pronounced tactile bump in exchange of having wobblier keys, the dental bands also prevent bottoming out so the keys don't hit the backplate, in my opinion it actually feels better with the dental bands, so I'll definitely put them back on.
I've also looked at the controller and if people were having doubts whether or not to get this because of a removable cable, the controller/daughterboard has the necessary cutouts to solder on a mini(?) usb connector, I'll try soldering one on (if I can find one that's lying around) and report back.
Overall I can happily recommend this board, if anyone has questions that need answers, feel free to shoot them my way.

DraxorHey mate, nothing to be sorry for at all! Really appreciate your effort.
That 0.8mm thickness is "a lot". Dentalbands or Hypersphere rings are around 0.5mm if i'm remembering correct, landing pads are ironed down to 0.2-0.3mm. Might be the reason that "a lot" of tactility is getting lost, i'm really curious to test this baby.
Again, thank you very much.

If it's OK, and Massdrop fam please feel free to delete/ask me to delete this, but here's a little insight on what's possible with this board:

*Bear in mind*, in stock form, this board is phenomenal. I have a rev1.0 but to my knowledge, outside of better slider housings (for LEDs mind you) rev2.0 is as good to go! I'm just trying to give people a potential outset regarding modding. Have a great day all!

unclebrudyWhat a shame i havn't seen or better expressed heard your video earlier. What a pleasure to listen!
Would be awesome to get more precise information than: RC930-87 is Krytox 105 lubed, sliders and stem, fine sanded and 90A Durometer 1/32" o-ringed. Where/what did you sand. I'm kind of a newbie to Topre, but love my RF 55g to death and will give this one a shot the next time it drops.
Cheers

Do we have any idea what is different in the 2nd Gen vs the 1st?

trujunglistThe 1st gen doesn't get the crazy music the 2nd gen listens to.

trujunglistIt looks like the switch housing is clear in the 2nd gen, where it was an opaque white in the 1st gen. I was thinking it was probably an improvement to the lighting...it does look brighter in the photos. Just from what I can see from the review on Keychatter. https://www.keychatter.com/2015/03/12/review-royal-kludge-rc930-87-rgb/

Keep in mind it's all subjective. I love all of those boards, but to me the RC930 is simply the most comfortable one to type on.

Thanks for that! I'm really looking forward to mine. I have a RealForce 55g, but the upstroke sound drives me nuts. It sounds like this will be silent bliss, while still being somewhat tactile. :)

Received the keyboard today in The Netherlands, no custom fees :) great keyboard, I find the key travel a bit short, bit for the rest it freels great. CDROM is useless for me (the windows machine I have is driveless, and the MacBook I have doesn't accept the tiny CDROM).
I downloaded the RC930-87 tool from the RK site, but I get the message 'Keyboard not connected'. Any advice?

You're an absolute saviour. I could not for the life of me figure out how to configure the lighting on the keyboard itself and this utility and the included manual helped immensely.

scalarmotionHappy to help! I also provided some steps to reprogram the keys in the previous page in case the manual is confusing.

DraxorThe Led on the Pause key seems to light up when you program the keyboard, at least that M letter on the does suggest that.

Will there be a tenkeyless version? It says that there is in the product description but when I hit join drop I don't see the option to change it to tenkeyless.

Thanks for this mini review! How long after the drop ended did it take for your board to arrive. I'm curious -- did you own a 55g Realforce board, and if so, how does the RC930 compare specifically to it?

wheeltklThere were some delays after the last drop before my board was delivered, which I guess would be my only minor complaint about the whole experience, but even so, it was not that bad considering it was right in the middle of Christmas season. I guess if I'd wanted the board as a gift for Christmas, I'd have been annoyed, but I personally didn't think it was that big of a deal. According to my transaction history, I purchased the board on 11/2 and it was delivered to my door on 1/19...so I guess it did take a while.
I did own a 55g Realforce 104UB at one point and it was very nice, but I ended up selling it because at the time I found it to be too stiff. Ironically, not too long after I sold that board, I went on a Cherry MX Clear kick when the CODE keyboard came out, so that got me used to heavier switches and may have strengthened my fingers after several months.
Anyway, in comparison, the 55g RC930 feels *much* lighter to me, though take that with a grain of salt as I no longer have the 55g Realforce for a side by side comparison. One thing I am sure about though is that the tactile bump and "spring back" was much snappier on the Realforce than on the RC930. The RC930 feels much closer to linear in comparison, as I think some others have mentioned as well. It is definitely *not* truly linear, though, as I also have a Cherry MX Red board and the action is completely different from that.
The closest comparison I have in my current collection is a Novatouch, which has 45g rated genuine Topre switches. Compared to that, the RC930 does feel slightly heavier to me, but I still think it feels lighter than "genuine" 55g Topre switches do. So I would rank the 55g RC930 in between a Novatouch and a 55g Topre for resistance.
Overall, though, I really do like the typing feel of the RC930 quite a bit, and mentioned earlier, I personally prefer the experience over my Novatouch due to the much quieter and more pleasing "thock".

I don't understand why the rubber dome like "switches," if you can even call them that, are even a thing, I understand people like the feel of a mechanical switch, and that's why they make mechanical keyboards! Making a switch completely out of rubber eliminates that mechanical feel, because instead of feeling the switch when you push down on a key, you feel a piece of rubber... Plus, with the rubber domes, if you're a fan of the Cherry MX Blues or Greens, then you'll be disappointed because there are no available switches in rubber that can deliver a tactile feedback, due to the flimsy rubber. The manufacturer of this product probably had to sacrifice the mechanical switches for RGB lighting to fit into this price range, but I'd strongly prefer a mechanical keyboard that looks like this one that had actual mechanical switches, other than rubber domes. I'd be on board with this keyboard otherwise, the RGB lighting is great and it looks like it has a nice solid sexy and sleek design.

TisesmeYou obviously dont know anything about keyboards, so why did you even write this? Topres have a response like a mechanical switch but have a feeling of a rubber dome, which is very satisfying for those who like to bottom out their keys. thats the reason why people buy topres, they arent simply rubber domes, they buffed up domes. For typing, this outclasses any mx switch/clone on the market. trust me, go type on one for hours on end and you wont stop. seeing what you typed, i suspect you are a blue fanboy
