I picked up this drop just prior to my 2018 AT NOBO thru hike which I started in late February. There was a lot of late winter snow and heavy rains and these socks were a real benefit. Like nearly all thru hikers I wore trail runners that would let thru ANY moisture. On days with downpours or snowy/cold days I would wear these on top of my injini 5 toe sock liners. They would keep my feet a lot warmer and drier than they would be otherwise. Your feet will sweat however and if the outside of the sock is soaked (e.g. it's rainy and soaked outside), that sweat will stay inside the sock. I think some confuse that with letting in water but I think it's sweat. If there was only minor rain/snow then I would wear my darn tough socks over the injini. Your feet could get wet but they would dry out faster too which lessens the chance for hot spots and blisters when you DON'T have your waterproof socks on. Once I setup my tent or used a shelter I would take these socks off and put on dry socks. It's important to turn them inside out and bring them into your quilt/sleeping bag to provide some warmth so they will dry out. It doesn't matter if the outside is wet but you want to dry the inside for when you need them next which could be the next day! I kept these waterproof socks with me the whole hike. That was a mistake because once it got warm I was wearing shorts. A few times I put on these socks when I knew it would be very rainy. But they didn't work well at all because the rain ran down my bare leg right into the sock. So.... my observation is that these socks are only good if you've got long pants or gaiters on that will prevent water from streaming down your leg into the sock. I don't think you'll find these kind of socks as durable as injinji's or Darn Tough's. Heck I brought 2 pairs of each and they looked pretty close to new after my 147 days on the trail. Because the Shower Pass socks have a membrane liner they are stiffer and the process of turning them inside out to dry I think stretched the material so it looks pretty close to tearing. I'm fine with that because these aren't a daily wear item and they helped me get through lots of nasty weather on the AT. Waterproof socks are an essential item for any long distance hiker who will face rain and/or snow/cold. As an FYI... my AT thru hike is vlogged at youtube.com/c/BobPritchard

I bought one pair… and wish I bought more. I was bushwhacking through damp and wet areas in my ventilated trail runners… and these socks kept my feet warm and dry. Far more comfortable than thin neoprene liners. Love them!

Yes they are waterproof, I wear them to the beach in the Winter with sandals. Of course the water is cold so your feet get cold but they absolutely stay dry.

My first pair of waterproof socks, and they saved me from a bad time. Slogging through cold mud on a trail by a lake got my feet numb and wet in minutes; I remembered the socks, went back to the cabin and put these on. My trail runners got soaked through and were still shy of dry the next morning, but my feet stayed dry and warm enough to enjoy the day. Just bought another pair as a gift.

Wore them on a 3 day hike of the Smoky's. Rained cats, dogs and bears on day 2. They soaked through in no time. They do not keep your feet dry in rainy conditions, but then again, my expectations were that they would wet out quickly....but thought I'd give them a try. And I'm not talking a little wet-- my feet were waterlogged and white, by the end of the day, like I spent the day swimming. Fortunately, I kept dry socks for bedtime.

Another2KWow...sounds like a total failure.
I wonder if your feet were wet because you immersed your feet, boots, and socks during a stream crossing, or perhaps water running down your leg in between your leg and sock?
I have seen individuals using these sock immerse their feet in water, or walk in snow and stay dry.
What do you think?
If it means anything, the Crazy Russian Hacker tested the Dexshell waterproof sock, and was very satisfied.

MsilverhammerIt means that if you have a temporary, quick immersion of the socks i n water, and they have time to dry, they won't wet out. I tested them in Smoky's, not the 100 mile Wilderness. That means, no significant stream crossings. I had long pants on and presumably, the water traveled down my pant leg, not down my leg. These wet out with exposure to rain, and exposure for only a few hours, if that.

I'm not very happy with my pair of Showers Pass Socks. They are the least flexible socks I've owned, and I've owned other water proof socks, including Sealskinz. These socks have absolutely no give. I have a very wide foot, and these socks don't have the slightest give to accommodate my foot. Putting these socks on is like forcing my foot into a code. I'd urge caution in buying this product.

Work exactly like they should. I have used them a few times when I know I will probably end up in the water with my feet and they work like a charm. No sweating issues either!

Tighter than compression socks.
I have issues with my feet and need room for my toes to spread out, although even socks that are tight are usually not an issue if they're stretchy. These socks are so tight they are immediately painful for me to walk in. I wanted to love them. I was hoping to use these for winter trail runs. I will probably try to sell them to someone who doesn't have feet problems. (If anyone here likes compression socks & wants to try a pair of M/L in the neon yellow color, let me know!)

I wore them a few days on a canoe trip and they seemed to keep my feet dry. But when washing them after the trip I noticed one of the socks did not hold water - it leaked. The socks are comfortable and warm. I will keep using them on river trips.

They're waterproof. They're quite thick, not really lightweight. Hard to get it. Not very comfortable when put on bare feet. Warm. Work best in cold weather.
