Does this drop include the refillable lighter AND the filling device when buying the XT version? I see the refillable lighter listed for the regular non-extendable one, but not on the extendable one. And neither mentions the filling device which is needed to refill the lighter. I'd like to order one but want to make sure it includes everything needed.

The XT is just a refillable lighter, it has a built in butane tank like a normal lighter rather then the basic model which is more of a nozzle and ignition system you jam a dollar lighter from the gas station into.

SchuylerAhhhh… ok... now I understand. For those of us not already familiar with them it would sure be nice if Massdrop would provide much better descriptions. And would also offer the filler attachment at the same time as that's what any back packer would want to have with it.

REI has both of them for a better price.

SkiommThe $13.95 version at REI does NOT include the refillable rectangular lighter. REI shows $19.95 for the version with the lighter. XT model is cheaper at REI.

GeeTeeHDon't forget you get $2 back on your dividend if you're a member. Not the same thing as cash in your pocket but it is a consideration especially when thinking about Massdrop shipping...

I have had both of these for a few years. The XT is kind of difficult to use because of the safety device, but it turns out you can pop that off with a screwdriver and then it works great!

Dr.DestructoJust looked more closely at the picture and they might have gotten rid of the safety device. Basically, it was a button on the side of the main button that had to be pushed in to push the main button down to light it.

Dr.Destructoa small bit of super glue and it fixed mine without possibly damaging the button

I have had one of these for years. The rectangular lighters are VERY hard to find. You can't just walk into a convenience store and buy them. That said, it works great.

No, I know where they are....and they each do last for quite some time.  This was more a comment on how easy and cheap they are to get.  The 100 will last me a very long time though, even if I was using them constantly.....like with cigars, lighting the fireplace, melting cordage ends, etc.

Just making sure, the pocket XT is only refillable and isn't used with a disposable lighter, correct? Specs list this designation... SOTO Pocket Torch XT

You sure? I saw nothing in the video about it and based on dimensions, doesn't seem like it should.

[As of 02/19/19] SOTO Pocket Torch: Massdrop $16.99 + $3.75 S&H (total $20.74) // Amazon $19.95 + free S&H (total $19.95). Soto Pocket XT: Massdrop $19.99 + $3.75 S&H (total $23.74) // Amazon - $24.95 + free S&H (total $24.95). So base model is cheaper on amazon by about 80 cents. XT is a dollar cheaper here, though you wait a month vs 2 days on amazon. So seems MD really isn't competitive on this one either.

Will this lighter work above 9000ft elevation? If not, its worthless to me and where generally hike.

True this... I was at 11k ft with the Soto and it only worked after 10 minutes warming in my pocket. The Xikar Stratosphere worked just fine at the foot of Pikes Peak.

I have the standard version which takes Scripto lighters, It basically turns a normal lighter into a torch, and it's very good at it as well. It has been great for camping and I always keep it in my backpack. I'm not a big smoker, but do enjoy cigars with friends a few times per year and have used this on golf trips (required air travel, domestic & international), on top of ski mountains (at altitude in the Rockies), and when my primary torch has failed. If you fly often this is an excellent option since you can dismantle the SOTO and put it in your carry on along with the Scripto. You are not allowed to put lighters in your checked baggage, and torch lighters aren't allowed on any flights whatsoever. Last, Scriptos are still easy to find and purchase (I saw some complaints in the comments). If you are having trouble finding them locally go to Amazon.

I have both of these, and they are great. It’s basically a mini torch that can light whatever you would use a lighter to light, but it will do so even in a substantial wind. I prefer the XT version because it’s directly refillable, and you don’t have to fiddle with the internal lighter.

K.T.NI have the XT, which I have had for a while, and while it is directly refillable, this says it now takes a disposable lighter so perhaps they changed it?

Received mine today. Quite easy to fill the lighter and complete setup. Good, consistent flame every time I pressed the trigger. .
