My first Topre board was an RC930 by Royal Kludge :3
Crap RGB backlighting, but otherwise a solid feeling board that has MX stems and was silenced long before Topre made this specific model. Bonus is that I picked it up for just under $50 on eBay NIB. Ive collected and tinkered with many MX boards and even lubed some Zealios, but nothing competes with how completely satisfying typing/gaming is on EC boards <3
I've yet to acquire a Topre of my own but the Plum 75 Bluetooth (with XDA Canvas) and Novatouch (Skull Squadron) are my favorite keyboards in my collection. My daily driver is an originally owned Dell Quietkey (baby's first keyboard) and my coworkers can't tell the difference in feel between the three of them. They all just give me the same look of, "Whatever helps you sleep at night." To each their own I say!
Please do a drop for the PBT spacebars only! I would definitely purchase more of the spacebars, but I do not need more Topre-switch keyboards. It would be particularly good to offer a spacebar-only drop with choices for the colors. For example, I could use several PBT spacebars in black, but I do not need other colors. Thanks for considering this.
People might be asking for a drop that includes only PBT spacebars in this thread because it is current. They might think that new posts on the inactive PBT spacebar drop thread would not receive as much attention. I hope that people (including me) who would like to see a spacebar-only drop are not demanding or crying but simply requesting. If customers do not indicate which products they would like to see in future drops, Massdrop would be less likely to offer them spontaneously. Patience is indeed a virtue, but as John Maynard Keynes famously said, "In the long run, we're all dead." ;)
No. No. No. Nooooooooooo!!! You're not really listening are you? Give us the freaking PBT Spacebars alone!! Jesus Christ what's so hard about selling them separately?
Good thing there YanboWu because I fear what will happen here on MD when you finally ONLY offer the PBT spacebars on their own.
This place will suffer a massive Meltdown and you guys won't even now what hit you, all the Thorpie Addicts rushing in to get their last chance to own these babies.
Like to see all the tears on those that have missed out, when this finally starts and ends in the usual MD way ; )
niz/plum stems are mx compatible topre style. I really like the azio retro custom kailh stems (no caps support it (yet?) but it's a large + shape with a central LED)
Is someone asleep at the wheel over at Topre HQ? Have they not been paying attention to the 55g uniform model that keeps selling out at each drop? THROW US A FREAKING BONE and give us a 104 55g!!
Or market it as a Ducky hybrid keyboard so other companies like MechanicalKeyboards.com can sell it for crissakes.
They already have a SKU for it: XF11K0. This was made for South Korea, just make more of them... Not that hard!
I already received my board today. Was surprised at the shipping speed. White/gray. Put the blue space bar on immediately, which was dirty, but cleaned up easy. I thought it was a flaw on the plastic, but just some grease or something.
Never typed on a Topre before. Very first impression right out of the box found me initially surprised at a few things:
1. It’s very quiet. I thought there would be more noise on bottoming out the keys. It is pleasant sounding, just a bit quieter than I thought it would be.
2. It felt good, but not twice as good as my Cherry MX Brown with thick PBT caps.
3. It felt more rubber dome-y than I thought it would. Not a good or bad thing. Just different. I thought there would be more of a pronounced nudge and release with a subtle click at actuation. Not sure why I thought this.
Then I had to clean up after dinner.
Came back to it later, connected it to my PC, and mashed out a few thousand words. Then I got my first real assessment:
A. The sound adds a lot to to the enjoyment. Not sure why, but definitely adds to the experience.
B. The feeling of actuation and then bottoming out, which I inevitably do each time, is satisfying.
C. It’s definitely the nicest keyboard to type on that I own. Not a lot to say there — just brown and red varieties. I will use this hands down at work all day every day. I think the only thing I’d like to have at this price point is an aluminum case and easier to swap/customize caps.
D. Not sure if it is worth twice my previous keyboard. But...I do like it a lot, and intend keep it. It’s like speakers, the price trends up much faster for incremental changes. I can live with that.
Doesn‘t sound like a glowing review, but I am cynical and have a high standard. It’s very good, and meets my expectations.
I do recommend it for Cherry fans on the fence that type A LOT and just enjoy typing.
MrMcSqueakI think you hit the nail on the head. It isn’t as much better as the price might suggest to some - but it is definitely the best to type on. And isnt that what we all want?
mattBiera good compromise for similar feel for a cheaper price are the niz/plum electrocapacative keyboards. I personally prefer their sound to topre, but side by side have a slight preference to topre for feel
Why doesn’t Massdrop do a special order of these with all 55g domes? I can’t do tenkeyless and I prefer heavier switches. I don’t understand why Topre doesn’t offer a fullsized 55g option. I suspect a lot of people would go crazy for a genuine 55g fullsize Realforce, myself included. Hi-Pro keycaps would be even cooler.
berwalddI second that. I have gateron blacks, cherry blues, browns and silver speed switches. I appreciate them all for what they are and topre is a whole other thing. It's really comfortable for extended typing and worth trying if you're looking for something different from cherry style switches. It's pricey - but if you're coding all day 5 days a week it's something you're going to appreciate.
Regarding this drop: I appreciate that this drop included the extra pbt space bars. So far I actually prefer the stock space bar as it has a wonderful surface texture. The stabilized keys are very solid on this board -- no issues with rattling.
Perhaps Topre is the Leica of keyboards - it offers no frills like other keyboards-- but does the one thing its supposed to do right.
