Product Description
The feedback from the Mechanical Keyboard community about just getting the case from the MKC Geekkeys drop helped us approach the manufacturer and ask for custom cases. The first ones we wanted to go for were some of the most successful keyboards on Massdrop Read More

actually they already did once, and the price is surprisingly high (around $300 if i'm not wrong)... and they wouldn't make any more TKL case for Filco (confirmed by Feng of GeekKeys) and started making their own aluminum keyboards, starting with the GeekKey 87-A. (was also run on MD)

Finally, my Varmilo VB87M is ready :D Quite happy with the result. The keys are from WASD with 40A O-Rings, (necessary for the office use).

have you noticed any signal issues w/bluetooth? Yes, the range reduced down to 2m (I am talking about gaming, for casual typing it might be ok even from a longer distance).
Also, did it require re-soldering anything? No, but make sure you have some double sided tape with you for sticking the battery in the case. I would recommend something thin and not too strong…
Did the new location of the usb port cause any issues? Not at all, it fitted perfectly fine.
Important note: when you will disassemble the plastic case, you will have to unplug the side clips (horizontally) around the case apart from one spot. On the back side where the usb is located, you will have to pull up (vertically) the upper piece (keys side) to separate it from the bottom piece.

What all other boards will this case fit? Any chance of it fitting a WASD Code 87-key?

I was replying to the comment about the lights on the WASD, but yes, moving a single port like that is "easy". All you need to do is desolder the port from the board, mount it to its new location in some fashion, and run some wires from the port to the old location on the board. I've never seen a guide for that, but it shouldn't be that bad. I'm assuming you're handy with a soldering iron, of course. Maybe a hot glue gun to stick the port to its new location.
Regarding the WASD Code compatibility with this case. There are 3 problems I can see. 1, the holes for the LEDs on the right side of the board. 2, the port on the WASD comes out the center of the board, not the back like this case has it. 3, this case doesn't have an opening for the dip switches the WASD KB has. These can all be worked around, maybe even ignored, but it might not be worth the time / functionality loss to you. I have not checked the screw port locations for compatibility, so you'll want to take a look at that before you buy.

Samuel_SturmThat doesn't sound too bad, but I think I would still mess that up somehow, lol. ): Thanks for the explanation though, I really appreciate it. Maybe I'll try it out someday!

Why the drops for keyboards that nobody owns? Should take care of the mainstream first, we need a Filco/Quickfire TKL aluminum case drop, pronto!

It's a major exaggeration of course, I'm just saying there would be a much larger demand for Filco and CM cases since they are popular and have been around a long time.

syn-ec-do-cheSimply because there wouldn't be a manufacturer for them in the first place ? The only place that would make a TKL aluminium case for Filco and CM Storm Quickfire series (or generally, Costar OEM boards) right now is Vortex.
And I have to tell you this, I'd rather stay with the stock case than moving there...

I received my case from last drop. It's very elegant however there is one problem, this thing is not properly treated and I would get short circuit all the time. Especially when I turn on LED mode. Good thing I have insulation sheet lying around; I ended up layering the inside with insulation sheets.

I haven't had any issues with the case shorting out my board. I don't usually use the backlighting to be honest, but I turned it on for the picture.
