In case anyone was wondering, I received the keyboard, and it's an extremely well made device. It's weighty, but not too large, and nicely textured. I've heard there are some troubles with some keys on OSX, but I can confirm that it works just fine with Linux, including the function keys.

I'm very happy with the switches as well. I got the brown switches, and they feel similar to Cherry switches, but smoother and less wobbly. In an improvement over my last keyboard, the menu button works as expected. Overall, I'm very happy with the keyboard, layout, build quality, and switches.
PBBPI'm very interested in the Gateron browns but not many reviews are out yet. I use Cherry MX browns. Would you happen to have any input on how they compare? You said the Gaterons are lighter than you expected. Would that be MX red light or just a tad lighter than MX browns?
Backspiniirc gateron browns and cherry browns have the same actuation force and whatnot. The general consensus is that the gaterons feel smoother when you press them down. I don't think smoother=lighter. Regardless, I'm definitely sure that they're not cherry red light. Many prefer gaterons over cherry because they're smoother. Hope this helps
PBBPMy last keyboard was green switches, so these have been a big adjustment. Compared to the other brown switches I've used though, I find these almost eerily smooth. The more I use them, though, the more I enjoy them.
BackspinIt is very dark. When I put my mouse (which is black) next to it, I can tell, but it does appear to be a matte black at first glance. I would say that dark almost-black of a newly paved road is pretty close.
OmniUniYeah, I thought it was a kind of asphalt color, which is pretty dark. Thanks for the response!
As for the brown switches, I'm interested in how they differ from MX browns. Does the smoothness "layer over" the tactile bump or perhaps it happens to reduce it?
OmniUniThe only real problem I'm having is I'm double spacing for some reason, other than that no real complaints. I do like it a little more firm, but it's not a negative experience. (I'm coming from Clears myself)
