I have a pair of the HS8's and love them. I'm looking for a smaller set of reference monitors to compliment them (I would love to get some mix cubes but find the active ones too expensive for their intended purpose).
Does anyone have experience using the HS5's with the HS8s or similar large reference monitor? Thoughts on it?

FrancDIf you put your ear near the Yamaha HS's tweeter, can you hear a white noise? Because I recently bought a pair of HS7 and I hear that noice just with the monitors connected to the outlet, without any audio input cables or so, just to the power with a power conditioner.

FrancDI have the hs5 plus the hs8s and while its not the most enjoyable listening experience its the most accurate for mixing in my opinion. If your not making music go for the jbl 305 then get the matching sub i have both tgese setups in my house and jbl us better for fun awsome sound and yamaha for 100% accuracy for music production

SomeoneSHi no I cant hear that that might be your audio interface, sounds like too much power or unconditioned.

SomeoneSSorry I just saw this. No I can't hear any white noise, you may want to check the power going into them, usually a sign there's too much amperage and it's causing a hum. Also check the back volume etc. I shouldn't do that.

TRravenI would up getting a mixcube to compliment and it's perfect for me, I keymapped my mono to a letter on my keyboard and then when it's on and I mono the whole track and turn off the Yamahas ( have them set to a stomp on off power source by my foot) its really flat and nice.

SomeoneSCheck your input gain (volume) if the volume is turned all the way up on any powered device you most likely will hear some light hum. If you hear a sudden sharp crackle without adjusting the volume most likely you've got a bad power supply. Please see my note on these particular brands if purchased through Massdrop - These are great speakers - BUT PLEASE SEE MY CAUTION - they are not Warrantied through Massdrop and Yamaha will not honor the warranty because they are not sourced through an authorized Yamaha Dealer.
