This is a review for Zilents that were purchased back around 2020-ish. At the time Zeal was making some of the best tactile switches on the market, and while they're still nice switches, I do believe there are better options in 2024. The Zelios V2 were a much more tactile switch than the V1, which I actually found a little unpleasant, but the dampening found in the Zilent switch manages to soften the bump just enough that it makes for a nice experience. More importantly, the Zilent provides a reasonably tactile switch with a near silent typing experience. Personally, I enjoy a bit of sound, but if you find yourself working in an office where you might disturb coworkers, this could be a great option. That was my main use case for these switches, as I used them on a keyboard that I brought into the office so that no one would know when I was derping around on Reddit, instead of working.
Ultimately, it's not my favorite tactile switch in 2024. Realistically, I'd give it a 3.5/4 on those grounds. When I factor in the unique use case of being a silent switch, however, I'm comfortable bumping it up to a 4/5. I feel as though any silent switch is going to be inherently compromised, so when I consider that I think that this provides a very nice tactile experience giving the less-than-ideal implementation in a silent switch.
Very great switch to have in your arsenal. If you’re looking for a nice starter switch in customs keyboards it maybe a tad expensive, but if you’re not wanting to go down a path looking for the perfect switch this is a good one to get. Currently have these in a JD40 board.
One of my favorite switches as a linear lover. Super smooth right out of the box although I do like lubing and filming for a slightly deeper sound profile.
with more and more competition for premium switches, zeal continues to ask the highest price for theirs. and for what? these switches aren't even great until they're lubed, filmed, AND spring-swapped. why do all that work when you can get cheaper silent tactiles like Durock Shrimps or Boba U4s and have to do less work to make them good?
Very smooth but nowadays, there are better alternatives
At the time of my purchase, Zeal was the topdog when it came to the most tactile and the smoothest switches, now you can get even better products for a fraction of the price that Zeal was charging. Zeal's original prices were outright criminal.
Such nice silent switches. They are super smooth while still having a very distinct tactile bump. I love the feel and all the sounds they don't make. These Are my Favourites, yet.
