Why do I even check Drop/Massdrop these days? 1TB version is going for $149.99 - $20 coupon ($129.99) on Amazon right now.

256GB model costs 63$ on Amazon, same price of this drop without the ridiculous amount of wait

  • 256GB is on Amazon for $50 right now, compared to $55 here.
  • 512GB is on Amazon for $73 right now, compared to $80 here.
  • 1TB is on Amazon for $140 right now, compared to $150 here.
  • 2TB does not appear to be available on Amazon.
I didn't bother checking other vendors. Not horrible deals, but not particularly good ones. Isn't the entire point of Massdrop supposed to be that it's drastically cheaper than other vendors, but it might take a while to get your item because of the whole group buy thing? And while we're at it, how about you just list the actual prices rather than making users do the math?

FloppieJust to point out the obvious, this is no longer MassDrop, it's just Drop now. In other words, MD gave up on the idea of trying to negotiate lower prices by buying in bulk, this model has failed about 2 years ago. Just read up on their rebranding announcement. Otherwise, agreed, MD has lost its way and I have not idea why the heck they are trying to overprice their offerings. I guess they rely on the old adage "a fool is born every minute", or they are just desperate for money.

AnzialSo, they're just going to be another Amazon except instead of two day shipping you get two month shipping and essentially no warranty to speak of. Oh, that sounds like a MUCH better model than bulk buying. So much better that it won't take nearly as long for this model to fail.... The New (not improved) Drop -- kind of like a garage sale where the pricing sucks and they offer way more junk than stuff that people actually want. Did you miss a particular drop?.....no worries...it's coming back next week, and the week after that, and then again the week after that.

A comprehensive review TL;DR - excellent performance until about half-full, after that it tanks significantly.

I kinda understood some of that... So for what sort of workloads would the Pro be worth the price jump over an Evo?

This is an OK deal. I’d like to see the 1tb option be a bit lower though. The 512GB could be had for ~$89 from Newegg in recent memory

still a deal?

TeensierPythonNo, it really isn’t. The 240 is $15 cheaper and the 512 is $2 cheaper on Newegg right now. Edit: oh and the 256GB is the same price. Edit 2: It appears some of the listings I viewed didn’t contain the PRO version. This is a deal on this product, albeit a minor one ($20 at the most on the 512 model compared to amazon, $10 on the 256 and $15 on the 1tb). I apologize for the misinfo.

This is a pretty great drive and the drop prices are OK at best vs. Best actual market price I could find. Drop prices vs. Current (save $10, wait a month to SHIP) DROP price 256GB $64.99 ////// Amazon $74.99 (free shipping) http://a.co/d/0FYvkRk (save $18, wait a month to SHIP) DROP price 512GB $99.99 ////// Manufacturer $117.99 (free shipping) https://shop.adata.com/us/ASX8200PNP-512GT-C (save $15, wait a month to SHIP) DROP price 1TB $199.99 ////// Manufacturer $214.99 (free shipping) https://shop.adata.com/us/ASX8200PNP-1TT-C So the savings are fair, but the wait is always what kills me with the drops... So you have to ask yourself is the cash savings worth the wait. If you don't mind waiting, then this is a pretty fair drop.

It wasn't meant to be a low blow. I just meant I'm a kid without a job, so I don't think I have to pay those taxes

HappyNemMakes more sense to go with amazon for sure, pay an extra 15$ and get it in two days instead of a month... stick to what you’re good at massdrop.

for 150$ , this isn't a good deal because amazon offer it for 139$ AND it ships much quicker from Adata too. Since the change of your branding from massdrop.com to drop.com, I rarely see a good discount to be honest. You do have great products like the Halo Panda switches and the HD6xx but I think the site turned to be just another online store and not a site to find discounts AT ALL.

You should put NVMe  in the title, otherwise the unknowing will assume it is a SATA drive with is incompatible. PCIe is not a good enough descriptor.

Yeah, it's motherboard specific, mostly determined by chipset.

Anzialm.2 can also be used via add-on PCI-e card (nvme [fast-lots of data] uses the PCI-e Bus easier implemented on Motherboards, Generally requires UEFI windows to boot from if installed on. Sata (legacy)/ACHI [ruffly SSD speeds - limited data] uses/shares/backwards compatible with the Sata controller - because it cheaper & mainly for laptops to save space.

Massdrop, can you please verify... From Pandora475 on Amazon: "This listing says in multiple places that its speeds are 3,500 read and 3,000 write. The box the device comes in says it only does 1200 write. Bench marking confirmed this to be true. I bought this thinking it was a going to be faster than Samsung's EVO 970 which lists as 2,500 write, but sadly that is not the case. The EVO 970 only costs $3 more and has twice the write performance. I highly suggest you buy it instead." The thing to note is that he reported this for the 256GB model. The 512GB and 1TB seem to be sold as advertised. Again, I don't know if he got the wrong order in he mail, but just wanted to confirm for the other Massdroppers on here if the write speed is or is not at 1200MB as Pandora475 stated and tested.

Max_PowerAData has been lax on the information on this line (just labeling the entire line "up to 3000MB/s"), but it appears true (from pictures of boxes I've seen on reviews). Best I've been able to collect is the max sequential write on the 256GB model is 1200MB/s, 512GB is 2300-2350MB/s, and 1TB is 3000MB/s. Userbenchmark.com comparison appears to loosely support this. This keeps it pretty much in-line with the Samsung 970 Pro, which doesn't have a 256GB version, but matches pretty closely on the 512GB version. Edit: It should also be noted that that reviewer is also getting mixed up, as the 970 EVO 250GB model is advertised with 1500MB/s write, even the 970 EVO 500GB is only 2300MB/s, which is the same on the 970 Pro as well. And this also falls perfectly in line with the similarly announced HP EX950 line which uses the same controller as this offer, and advertised 2250MB/s write at 512GB, 2900MB/s at 1&2TB (they have no 256GB model).

(Mass)Drop lost its way, for this drop to be acceptable, it should be like $120 to $130 for 1tb, instead, the price is as high or higher than other retailers. This is not the first time I see this here, I think you lost me, I think I'm unsubscribing to the pc gaming part of this site.
