Nice try, AKG. "Packaging change - B stock".
Anyone who reads the head-fi thread on AKG K267 will realize:
The word "broken" is most used word describing this model.
There are apparently 2 versions of this. Older version with material of "wrong recipe", and a newer version that "corrected this".
Guess which version is being dumped here. Why were they sitting in a warehouse?
Interesting note in the head fi thread: one guy claimed that his broken K267 was not repaired under AKG warranty, but replaced with a K712 instead. Maybe we should join this drop for the chance of getting a K712 for cheap.
"Packaging change". Always learn something new everyday.
I've purchased 6 headphones in the 6 months I've been on Massdrop. Guess this will be the next headphone in my monthly Massdrop headphone, uh list, thingy. Damn you, Massdrop!
I am a musician.
I am a student at Berklee College of Music dual majoring in music business and music production.
I am a producer.
I produce everything from jazz to hip-hop, electro-house to movie scores.
As a music producer, I listen to all kinds of music. My reference library includes CD's from Sting, Black Eyed Peas, Steely Dan, Fourplay, Eminem, Deadmau5, Nosia, Peter Gabriel, Tom Petty, Niel Diamond, on and on and on.
I love deadmau5, but don't you dare judge me telling me I may someday discover real music.
Hey Everyone,
Thanks for your interest in this drop! As stated in the note, these units are considered B-Stock. Here’s the official statement from AKG:
“Due to a forthcoming packaging change, AKG has deemed the product as B Stock”
So basically, these were sitting in a warehouse, waiting to be sold, then someone within AKG decided they needed to update the packaging for this headphone. These units have never been opened, returned, scratched, dented, or anything else. Thier packaging is out of date, that’s it.
Rather than ship these back to China, have the packaging replaced, then shipping them back to the states, AKG has offered these units to our community at an incredibly low price. These are covered by a full manufacturer’s warranty.
This is a unique situation and I expect there are questions, respond to my comment and I’ll get you an answer.
WillSo do we have confirmation that these are indeed the more durable revision? I plan to take these on a 16hr flight and then through the rest of my trip, so durability is a big issue for me. Other than that, I'm sold! Thanks in advance :)
TrofeoThanks. Canceled my order after seeing this. I have B&W P7, Senn Momentum, V-Moda M100, AKG K550 for closed headphones. I don't use them much and I doubt I would get use out of these if they are close to K550 and Momentums. Although a great deal, I will probably not use it at all. Too hot in California to wear them out, and got too many hifi open back headphones to use indoors.
As royalflush noted, some guy (me) on head-fi, "claimed that his broken K267 was not repaired under AKG warranty, but replaced with a K712 instead." Yes, that happened. And while I like the K712, a lot, I still went out and found another K267 because I like them so much. The isolation, portability & overall sound signature are what sold me on the K267 in the first place and what I missed with the K712.
Maybe Will can check a few serial numbers and get back to us with the results. It should be: UT3474-XXXXXX. If the last six digits indicate they are 7000 series or higher, they should be the newer version. The other check is the lump in the smaller adjustable part of the headband just above the metal swivel pieces.
Whether they are the updated version or not, they are the best sounding headphones I have heard. I'll be in for at least one set either way.
Yardst1ckHey man, thanks for your post! I checked the serial numbers on all our sample units and they range from 10973 to 11983, well above the 7000 mark.
I'll add some pics to this post in a bit.
Anything else I can check?
I got mine yesterday. For some senseless reason, I've been lusting after this AKG K267 Tiesto headphone for quite some time.
Listening to it now, plugged into my Schiit stack: Lyr 2 Hybrid with a pair of stock B6Z7 tubes and Bitfrost Multibit.
Initial impression: impressively bright and fun sound from low to high volume levels. No, scratch that--this headphone, the AKG K267 Tiesto, is erotic in more ways than one!
On Studio setting, the lows (as expected) is strong, masculine and well-built in a really sexy kind of way, giving the whole soundscape a tinge of erotic warmth, confidently cradling an unabashedly forward and prominent multi-layered mids, balanced by luscious and exciting but well-behaved highs.
Be warned: this headphone sounds so seductive and hypnotic that you'll be lured to want to hear more and more, and you will be very tempted to turn the knob to dangerously higher and higher volume to feed a growing, seemingly endless aural desire. It sounds wholly orgasmic at a really high volume. You're not going to just tap your feet, drum your fingers, or bob your head. Your whole body will move with uncontrollable spasmodic desire. (If you dare, just listen to the 9-minute "Narvas" track by Juno Reactor and Don Davis from the "Matrix Revolutions: The Motion Picture Soundtrack " album.)
Of course, you need to exercise stern, puritanical self-restraint, realizing that before long, it will raise you up to an altered state of being and tear at you, creating physical damage to your hearing first of all, and yes, possibly damaging your self-esteem as well.
Now, if you want to really push it to the edge, listen to that same "Narvas" track at Club setting. The very core of your soul will be damned!
And if you find yourself teetering on the edge, about to lose sanity, the only way to gently come back to your senses is by listening to something else entirely, maybe something familiar, maybe a soft solo acoustic guitar or a solo piano, at Stage setting.
With this headphone, all I can say is, "Wow!"
I got in on the last Drop of these headphones. There are a couple things i would like to point out to people who are now going into or thinking of joining the drop.
First thing, i do not consider the width of my head to be wide and i wear medium sized hats, but the band on these holds the earphones very tight on my ears and the speaker is literally resting on my ear. I had to bend the band to make it so i could actually wear them for more than 10 min. Now that i can actually use them i noticed that the ear pad foam is of poor quality. there is no support from the foam and eventually the pad collapses and the speaker is again on my ear when the bands tension is very low. Now on to the cords. the coil cord is very nice but i cannot use it. the headset came with the solid 10' cord connected to the headset but the release button will not work so i cannot use the coiled cord as the uncoiled cord is stuck inside the headset. Sound quality is good for the highs in all three settings but there is very little bass!! This is a EDM Dj's Headset why wouldn't the bass be a priority on these? I do not know. If i where you i would wait for a Seinhauser drop for around the same price as these in my opinion are very uncomfortable to wear and the Sound quality i was lacking..
