This is my first pair of really nice headphones and I was wondering about a DAC/Amp for them? Does anyone have suggestions?

TalDrakkanI just picked up the monoprice DAC/Amp drop, and is what I'm planning on using. Its only 60 ohms, an amp might not be necessary but any amp should be alright

TalDrakkanThe schiit stack is a great start. Schiit Magni and Modi. $200 for both.

jason761If I get these for home, how would the headset be expected to run off a phone/computer in the office or on the go? I imagine it would be able to run okay but not great? It would likely still be better than the vmoda crossfades I got back in highschool right?

TalDrakkanIf you're running off of ur onboard audio its gonna be quiet and not sound as great. You can get the Fiio e11 when ur on the go. I don't have the croasfades so I can't say. The k7xx is a rebranded AKG k702 anniversary

TalDrakkanDepends on what you want to do. Good choices include:
* If you want to solve your headphone dac/amp problem once and for all in a way that will last more-than-several years, you've got 1 day to jump on the CEntrance DACmini CX for $400 (instead of $800... and it was a good deal at $800).
* If you don't want to spend that much, the previous MD of the Fiio E18 dac/amp was a good deal on a bargain product ($130 instead of $160-or-more), and it looks like they're probably gonna do it again before long, as they've got way more than 200 people asking for it.
* If you wanna spend the least you can to get something good, and if you can live with something that's a small USB-powered item, the Schiit Fulla is hard to beat at $80. It will be fine with the AKG and many, many others, but power-hungry cans will want more.

RShackWould the DAC mini be overkill for these? Would there be a noticeable difference to someone with as yet untrained ears between it and a schiit stack? The idea of solving the problem once and for all is pretty nice, but im not sure if I'd be jumping the shark? xD
Fiio e18 is portable right? Is it therefore a large step down from say the schiit stack that would be in the same-ish price range but desktop?
Thanks and sorry for my ignorance xD

TalDrakkanCEnterance DACmini won't be an overkill. but you may not be able to tell the difference. My friends can't tell the difference direct or through the dac/amp.
but these are also people who can't tell the difference in quality from 320mp3 versus 96;24flac

TalDrakkanNo way to know if you could tell the diff between the DACmini and something else... ears are strange... one main advantage of the DACmini is that you just wouldn't have to worry about either DACs or headphone amps... once-and-you're-done (unless you decide to go nuts with tubes)... with something less, you could easily get some cans that have you thinking you need to upgrade the DAC and/or the amp... with the DACmini, you can completely trust that you're putting the best possible DAC-thing and amp-thing between your digital files and your cans... (unless you wanna spend $thousands, but when you do that, then you're in "Is this any better? Who really knows?" territory...)
Fiio E18 is portable... I never heard the Schiit stack, so can't compare the two... E18 is highly regarded for what it is, and I'm happy with mine...
