One of the most aggressive trail shoes in Altra’s collection, the King MT 1.5 shoes are designed to provide superior traction off the beaten path. They feature a redesigned mesh upper that’s tough enough to take on rough terrain without breaking down Read More
Bought these for Spartan Races. Had to size up half size larger. I like the velcro on the top, and they are fantastic with grip and durability. Definitely recommend for trail running and races.
I love the wide toe box as this is specifically what my foot needs. It's so hard to find good trail runners with this feature. However, this shoe did not fit to size for me. Every shoe that I have purchased over the last 40 years has been 10.5. I need at least an 11 in this shoe so I am stuck with a shoe that is too small. My initial research indicated that this shoe fits to size. However, currently I see some advice that indicating that Altras run a 1/2 size small. Be warned!!
Like other Altras, this shoe has a large toe box that allows your toes to spread out. The down fall I've found with this shoe is the design and composition of the sole. I live in VT and spend a lot of time hiking in the Green Mts. The Green Mts are green because they get a fair amount of rain. This means the trails are often wet. My experience with these shoes is that they are fine walking along, but put them on a wet rock, especially going down hill, and they slip too often for my liking. I understand Altra trying to find a balance between durability and traction, but I don't think they've found it with this shoe for these conditions. I think these shoes would do well out west where the trails tend to be dryer.
Fit is a bit more snug than timp and Lone Peak, but that’s to be expected for their designed use of technical trails and OCR’s. Grip is good, but could def use more padding.
Overall they’re solid, just not enough to make me give up my Timps.
Oh, and if the Altra team reads this, know that the new timp 1.5 makes my right foot numb on the ball and middle 2 toes. Not sure why, so I returned them and stocked up on original Timp
I'm 9.5 (size :) and they fit well. "Foot shaped" is great, Hokas caused blisters between toes by jamming them together (crazy to have shoes not shaped like feet.) Like soft back (no sharp plastic heel cup.)
Best soles. Wore out Olympus which also say Vibram Megagrip. King's have deeper lugs, mid foot has hard rubber, feel stickier, better on wet rocks, logs.
I prefer more cush and had small sharp pressure, thought from plastic buckle. It was from unnecessary tongue gusset bunched up under strap. Smoothing gusset and not tightening strap much prevents that.
