I'm not interested in this but I can see a Bugout discussion coming....

The steel liners are nested but they run the length of the handle. The Bugout, like an increasing number of Benchmade knives, doesn't have that. They're relying on the strength of the handle material to hold up to use. And the truth is, it's fine for real life use -- but people envisioning the worst case scenario start thinking about how they might need it to support the entire weight of a Volkswagen bus or how they might have to jam it in between closing vault doors to keep from being drowned in a supervillain's trap or how they might need to use it like a piton to climb up a sheer cliff face, and then those thoughts stay in the back of their mind until they pick up something like a Krudo or a Medford that weighs most of a pound and are deliberately overengineered to appeal to this sort of 'all the shit, hitting the biggest fan you ever saw' mindset. I dunno, some of these folks might indeed be living the Violent Nomad lifestyle as part of Tier One ops but I gotta figure most of them aren't. They're needlessly hauling a brick in their pocket... but they're happy and who am I to judge them for it? For me? I'm happy to buy useful pocket folders like this one and know that in case everything goes to hell in a handbag that I've got plenty of fixed blades to see me through.

reswrightYeah, but when it's time to run for the hills, you may not be able to snag one of your Ka-Bars. It's always good practice to strap a machete to your thigh (and avoid wearing skinny jeans for many obvious reasons).

No news on the ship date? Been a while since I ordered from Drop, did they get even less communicative?

NicktheKnifeI don't think they could even get less communicative than they already are. And when they actually do communicate, it can be quite vague, to say the least.

NicktheKnifeUpdate: Guess I'm cancelling this order. Makes no sense for Drop to list items for sale and not have them available to ship for over a month. Just over it, you're better off getting a half faked Benchmade off Wish and you'll still get it before anything from Drop. This was the correspondence I received when I sent a ticket to support: Due to an unexpected delay, these orders may ship later than the original estimated ship date. Our apologies for any inconvenience. If we find that the product run is going to be delayed by more than 30 days, we will let you know.

If you prefer to cancel your order, you may locate your order and cancel by going to drop.com/transactions. You will be able to do this up until it is ready for shipment. If you encounter any issues, please contact Drop Community Support. So of course, a vague explanation. Though I don't understand why they bother adhering to a hard stop date for orders or have an item available to order when it isn't even ready for shipment. Drop already has my money, it makes no sense to not provide a service in a timely manner.

The cheapest price I can find by $10. Several outlets are $90 or above. I have two. Good knives from a good manufacturer. Solid value for money, exceptionally well fit, lots of CNC work for such a 'simple' knife. Good crossbar lock, smooth flip with the thumb stud or wristing it while you actuate the crossbar lock. Snaps right out either way. Flips on hybrid washers. Overall somewhat heavier and a lot more rugged than the Benchmade Bugouts that people compare them to. For what you pay and what you get I'd rather have this. I say that as someone who owns several Benchmades and doesn't harbor any particular animus toward the Bugout -- being fully fair the ultralight construction of the Bugout will appeal more to people who really need that thinness and extreme lightness so if you're planning to hike the Andes wearing spandex, you pick it over the Field Bro. But if you're talking about a knife you put in a bugout bag and all that entails, it's the Field Bro -- and the difference in price is just icing on the cake there. The delivery times have run a little long on both I've ordered, but that's nothing new for Drop.

No, and neither are they flat. But I haven’t had a problem with them, I gotta say. They don’t stick up a lot. here’s a pic showing the extent:

Shipped with FedEx smart post, the slowest service you could pay for. Hoping mine arrives this week. Too bad Drop is just a shadow of what Massdrop started as.

NicktheKnifeYeah, I live in San Diego, and I watched the tracking on mine go from NJ to TN, then to KY, to OH, then IN, THEN back to KY again. At this rate I'll hopefully recieve it by Easter, but who knows. I agree, when it was Massdrop, there was always a good deal or two on drops, and it felt more like a community. Now however, as Drop, they're a shadow of the former, indeed.

It's just my luck there would be a shipping delay for the one knife I decided to purchase, and been looking forward to getting in hand.

A Bugout in Canada will cost about twice as much as this one. I already have a Bugout so I'm not biting on this one, even though I'm curious.

Well I did bite on this one after all. Couldn't find a better price point anywhere else and its too good a knife to let slide by. It will make an interesting first person comparison of very similar blades.
