Updated 10/12 via email
Hi everyone,
We have a quick update for you. We have now received these units to our warehouse and expect them to ship to you by the end of next week.
To compensate you for the delay and slow communication with this drop, we have processed a $10 partial refund for your order. You can expect to see the funds in your account in the next 2-3 business days.
Update 10/3
From Jonas (Massdrop Custom Products) - copied from below:
Hey everyone,
We know you've been waiting on this, and we appreciate your patience. Our team has been following up almost daily but had a hard time getting concrete info, but we finally have tracking info that shows the shipment is due to arrive at our warehouse this week, as early as tomorrow.
Our warehouse is currently experiencing an unusually high volume of shipments, so we don't have an exact date for them shipping out to members just yet. Once they arrive and have been processed by the receiving department, we'll update the group with a date by which you should see tracking info.
Thanks again for your understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please click "Contact Support" in the Transactions area of your member profile so our team can reference your specific order.

Update 9/30:
Boker has told us that they sent the latest batch of 800 units to us yesterday, so we expect them to arrive next week. Sorry for the additional delay on us receiving and sending out this drop. There will be some time needed for receiving, processing (quality control check), and then labeling and shipping, and these should be shipped out within 7-14 days of them landing in our warehouse.
I'll try and get more information on specific timeline along with pictures when they hit our warehouse, and will share an update with you all then. (Next update on or before: 10/9)

Hey all -
I wanted to provide an (overdue) update to you. Due to production taking longer than initially anticipated, these orders are shipping later than the original estimate. Based on the timing we’ve been given by Boker, we expect all orders to be shipped by 9/29 at the latest, but will be shipping orders out in batches as soon as they come in starting next week (9/11-9/15).
I know this delay is a disappointment, but I also know it’s way worse that we did not update you accordingly until now. Mistakes and delays happen, but it’s on us to be as upfront, timely, and consistent in communication with you about them as we can be. I’m sorry for the delay, and even more so for our poor communication. I’m working with the team to fix the breakdown in the process that led to lack of an update for so long. If you have feedback for me on this, feel free to reply here or reach out to me at brad.ross@massdrop.com.
If you would prefer to cancel your order, please contact Community Support using the “Contact Support” button on your transactions page and our Community Support Team will be able to help cancel your order up until it is ready for shipment.
Thank you.
I received my knife yesterday as well. You are correct. The wood is ”natural “. No sealer, no protective coating. It will absorb any & all oil on your hand and will quickly discolor. FAIL.
operator1I received my knife serial# 0951 this week as well. The blade is centered and no issues with the grinds. No dings or scratches on the scales but no sealer of any sort. Very dry..Since this is not a gift I coated the scales with Renaissance Wax, which I highly recommend. That was a very long wait but all said I'm pleased with this knife, but probably would not do this again.
Hey everyone -- Following on the great success of our community-designed Urban Trapper sprint run, Massdrop is pleased to partner with Boker again to make another special edition from a popular design with premium materials available for under $100. Here's a quick FAQ about this exclusive sprint run:
* The minimum order quantity for this production is 600 units, and the maximum is 2500.
* If 400 to 599 units are sold now, Massdrop will step up and purchase an additional 200 to 1900 units to make the production feasible.
* Any additional units would be made available to the Massdrop community in future drops.
* This first production of 2,500 pieces will be serialized. After, if any further Kwaikens with mirror / rosewood combination are produced, they will be 1) without serial numbers, and 2) only sold on Massdrop, if the community's demand supports Massdrop's ability to have Boker supply 600+ per year.
* The first 400 members who join will be guaranteed serial numbers under 500, after that numbers will be distributed randomly - thank you to the members who join early and drive the momentum that we hope will make this happen!
* Expected delivery is August 31st, 2017. Due to the prolonged wait time for production, we're offering free shipping to all US addresses and discounted shipping for Canadian and International addresses. Thanks in advance for your patience, we'll keep the group posted as we have updates.
Thanks for making this possible! I've been excited to see this launch since I picked up that production sample you see in photos at SHOT Show, and I hope folks will appreciate the shine they put on this blade - I think it's a great new look on a community favorite design. Happy to answer any questions and hope we can make this happen!
WOAW! Nice knives... I have more than 30.... Too many! (thanks in part to Massdrop).
I think I need to take some pics and all start a pissing-contest-eye-candy thread!
JonasHeinemanFree shipping for all is better, why should we in Europe pay for this and US not???
And some bonus would be good.......
If everybody cancel their order you will lose a lot I think
No frame lock, no thank you
4-17-2017*****lol, it is truly amazing what people care about in life....... Me, my comment, my rudeness. Lmao, historical 💕💕💕💕💕

Wait, there are options beyond "We appreciate your patience! But will not do anything to compensate you. Our bad we're over a month past the estimated ship date. Sucks to be you. Cancel your order or leave us alone?"
I got mine just now... #0142 ... looks beautiful, but the action is terrible.. The blade scrapes one side and it feels like there's sand in the bearings. It doesn't always open consistently. I'll give it a little spa treatment and see what that does.
(I actually forgot I'd ordered this one for a while there)
EDIT: After cleaning and adjusting, the knife is much better. Action is perfect. Centering improved. I also put on the Pop's deep-carry clip.
I noticed a couple of the screws had mangled threads right above where they're threaded into the liners. So it doesn't affect their function but something weird happened to them. Another subtle issue is that the scale screws all rest at different heights because the countersink holes are all different depths. Sloppy!
Overall I give it an A-. Some tolerance issues here and there but I guess that's just typical Boker.
If you want to hold in the balls during assembly the grease will be better. That's what they use at the factory. You can drop the balls in and turn the blade upside down and they'll stay. The oil is a little too thin for that. However if you are very careful about it, you can reassemble with oil. I've done it both ways. I usually use a couple drops of 85 weight nano oil.
This knife is a little more complicated to disassemble/reassemble than most because of the way to pivot goes through the scales and then there are screws for both the scales and the liners. So you have to kind of hold the knife together, then put the scales on at an angle, then screw in the liner screws, etc. If you practice without the balls a couple times you can get the sequence down. A set of blunt-tip or round-tip tweezers are good for the balls. (The balls in the knife that is, heh.)
I can't say weather that oil would work for you as the others said. and I believe it might not be viscous enough. I use PFPAE grease for working on bike parts, and it has done me well with the IKBS too. This is the grease I use: https://www.amazon.com/Finish-Line-Extreme-Fluoro-Syringe/dp/B002L5UL92 . It doesn't take much either so it might be a bit excessive to buy the whole syringe just for a few ball bearings, but I can guarantee that it is effective at holding and lubricating the ball bearings.
The Kwaiken is a beautiful knife at its price point, as long as it stays closed. Then you open it and see the goofy shape of the blade. It's all belly. It's dorky looking.
I'm not buying one. I want something from Boker+ that is a little thicker and stronger than the Urban Trapper, with a useful blade profile and at least 20% lighter than the Kwaiken. For as heavy as this beast is you'd think there would be more blade there.
I like the mirror polished VG-10. I got the Urban Trapper titanium in polished VG-10 and it is outstanding. Just vanishes in the pocket.
But it's a little too slight to use at work. Looking for a slightly beefed up Urban Trapper. This ain't it. It is a pretty thing but just not it for me. Looking for something with this look but less weight. I have several heavy duty knives that weigh less but are chunkier. This knife has almost everything but the continuous curve on the blade and the sheer mass send me back on my quest for a beefed-up gentleman's knife.
Received #156, very disappointed with the quality and execution of boker/massdrop. I will be returning this knife unfortunately, but before I will disclose my issues.
1. The wait time/delivery issues happen and it was nice massdrop offered to discount the shipping but overall I feel like this knife was rushed to production, you can see this reflect in the quality.
2. The mirror finish is not up to standards I would expect from this wait time and from boker, There are dents in the finish that clearly have been attempted to buff out but are nonetheless still there, unacceptable QC.
3. The boker logo has been poorly lasered onto the face of the knife, either the knife moved during etching or just bad QC, either way the logo looks like complete blurred crap.
4. The serial number on the blade is not evenly centered, once again this is a sign of rushing through production, very disappointed.
5. Action is terrible and there is clearly some tool marks/damage on the hardware, once AGAIN another sign of rushed production.
6. There is a drop of varnish or other wood treatment that is dried and consolidated on one side of the wood, I really cant believe how many times boker has dropped the ball on this piece.
Maybe I am holding boker to higher standard as I recently received the immaculate ferrum forge falcon, but it is still not excusable, I am sure I am not the only one noticing these issues.
Yeah definitely needs to be addressed, whether its one knife or ten or a hundred. We'll make sure to address it with Boker, but we need to collect a bit more info so we know the full range and size of any issues. Thanks for your understanding and help to resolve it.
The refund and credit is fine with me. A lot of buyers are still complaining but come on, Massdrop did try to rectify the situation which was mostly out of their control. You just can't please some people without giving them the world.
