So it's probably inconsequential to most but anyone know if this thing will brew using a smart switch... e.g. will it start a pot if the power switch is "on" when it gains power? I have a slightly unusual process where a programmable doesn't always make sense so I use a smart switch to start the pot from my bedroom or bathroom (via Alexa) so it's ready by the time I hit the kitchen.
If you're going that far, may as well replace the button with something that can be fired directly by the pi or an Arduino, via relay if it carries power, or via logic if it's just a momentary switch. Far more reliable than attempting a rube goldberg contraption to actually actuate the existing button. :)
I purchased one of these about 9 months ago, and this is a solid "Coffee Maker". I'm into both espresso and pour-over and I very rarely drink coffee from "The Pot" but this does a nice job overall.
I purchased this for my wife, who really didn't want to fuss with pour-over/presspot/espresso every morning and this thing is perfect for her. It has the simplest design for the basket, it just sits neatly on the pot, and that makes clean up so easy. Coffee never touches the inside of the machine, meaning no gross grimy buildup. Comes with a great vacuum flask carafe that keeps the coffee warm for multiple cups throughout the morning.
It is not programmable. It has only one button on it, but that is the beauty of it, press one button and its off to the races. This thing is fast, heats the water to the correct temperature quickly and gets going!
TL;DR - Bottom line is that it makes good coffee maker coffee, is the easiest to use and clean machine I've seen. Will it make life changing coffee? No, but it does make a good cup, because it doesn't do anything to ruin your coffee like many machines.
I’ve got the big brother! Makes excellent coffee however the carafe lid is a piece of junk! Constantly leaks and has very restricted flow! Still, good unit decent price!
Yep, my 8 cup reservoir holds less than my carafe so I usually go just a bit over and it's fine. Occasionally I'll go a little too over and it pools below the carafe. I'm with you I think it's to prevent over filling. It's not an issue for me though, I love mine. I actually had an issue with mine that was probably more my fault but it was still under warranty and they sent me a new one. I'm extremely satisfied with mine and would buy another one if this one fails. Customer service was amazing, I didn't have to ship it back, just explained the issue and they sent me a new one.
Yeah, what you experienced makes sense to me. I think you're probably right with regards to quality control--some just aren't sealed properly. I may try to seal the gap myself or gamble on a new carafe. They're not cheap though : /
