The very latest version of Android is 14, this is running 6. How far upgradeable is it? Obviously it doesn't need to have all the features and security updates of a smartphone, but if my intent is to use Apple (beats) Music on this 'walkman' device, at some point the Apple Music will drop support for older versions of Android. That's assuming one can even install streaming music apps on this, or it's strictly local file only based.

LiteEmmUppThis is a skin over Android 6 so it is not an open version meaning you cannot install apps on it. It is more like the Hiby OS used on lower end players like the Hiby R2 and R3 or the Shanling M0. It's purely a dedicated music player. You are right though, at this price there are many options with better specs and features.
