Uncomfortable headphones can be such a headache—literally. The latest innovation from Dekoni Audio, the Nuggets pads are designed to provide welcome relief Read More
rossoThe Choice Leather is one of our new favorite materials! Smooth and sealed like leather, but softer than lambskin or pleather. Almost feels like cloth to the touch, very luxurious and not itchy at all. Win-Win!
RayFSo many uses...
One of us at the office put some in his bike helmet to replace the foam that wore away, and he says it helps the air flow better over his head and keeps him cooler. We told him he was cool already, but whatever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The wife of one of our staff can’t wear most headphones; she has a great mind, but a small head! Many headphones don’t adjust short enough for her, so she usually used earbuds and earclip headphones, but now she can finally wear an Audeze LCD2C without the pads sliding down off her ears. We’ve gained a new unofficial pad tester!
Pretty much essential for anyone who has a headphone with a straight headband design. How people can tolerate contact on the direct top of their head for more than 30 mins is beyond me. Slap a few of these guys slightly to the sides and you're golden.
Also very happy to see so many companies going the vegan route. Synthetic leather/protien makes far more sense now that formula's have been done to the degree it's pretty much better than leather in terms of wear/tear. Also sending defenseless animals to oblivion for the sake of wearing their skins is pretty much disgusting to think about.
Good job Dekoni!
theyre cute lol ... would be hard to resist not biting one of them.
i like ideas like this though, theres a lot of modders here and its nice to see new accessories popping up
Very strange to see MD use the 4XX as an example when having "Premium Aesthetic, Comfortable Feel Comfort is king for the HE4XX, " but the first paragraph of this is "Relief From Uncomfortable Headbands
Uncomfortable headphones can be such a headache—literally."
I probably would have used something you didn't sell as a demonstration lol.
densetsuHAHAHA this reminds me of the story where the merchant sells both the spear which can pierce anything and the shield which can block anything in his stall XD
densetsuWhile the HE 4XX isn’t the worst headband offender in the world, Planar Magnetic headphones are generally heavier, and a wearer will especially feel it at the tip of the crown if their head is a bit narrow. We contend that Massdrop could have chosen any headphone they had on hand, and the Nuggets can help customize the fit. A pad at the peak, plus some on the sides to share some of the pressure from said peak, will distribute the weight, create a bit more airflow, and make the fit more snug. Or, our hypothetical wearer could use all four with a gap at the peak of the crown, or two headphones with two nuggets on each.
”Snugglets” was another name idea for the pads, but we decided to go with Nuggets 😉
Any experience with taking the nuggets off? Concern is (1) residue, and (2) whether the adhesive is so strong that pulling the nuggets off will cause some of the material from the headband to come off with it, especially after long-term usage of the nuggets in the same spot. Thoughts, anyone...?
mensreaNo problem. I still think they’re worth having. I have some of the original release (white and blue tape backing) and the current Nuggets (red tape backing) and they perfect the only flaw of the TH-X00 (like Linus Tech Tips said, I can really feel the underside stitching after awhile). I have some permanently attached to my AKG and TH-X0, and I always keep spares to temporarily use on headphones I borrow from time to time (with a little Scotch tape, they stay on long enough for a photo or a review).
One of the employees of our office always used a baby seatbelt cover on his Q701 and K612. The Q701 bumps, if you’ve tried them, are very firm and have about as much compression as the leather headband on the K612/K7XX. AKG also changed their K701 model from having a bump at the center to having bumps to either side of center, because the middle bump was causing a hotspot for many people.
The Dekoni Nuggets, on the other hand, are about 3x as thick and MUCH softer and squishier, the Choice Leather fabric is also softer than the “hard boiled” leather headband and even is softer and less sticky than regular leather used on earpads. Plus, you can stick on the Nuggets how YOU like.

A typical DIY headband mod:

(The owner of the K612 says the padding flattened out and doesn’t feel cushy anymore, just fuzzy from the wool-like wrap)
Versus the Nuggets:

Note: The owner of the K612 above is balding, so he applied the Nuggets with a wider center gap so the peak of his crown would have no pressure. Congrats to him on getting padding upgraded from baby products and into the big leagues! 🤣
