Product Description
The Drop ALT mechanical keyboard is just like the CTRL, but with 67 keys instead of 87. Absent of function keys, it wastes no space—but it still has a full set of arrows and numerals Read More
Day one of using this keyboard, it worked perfectly. I loved the LEDs, the feel of the MX Browns, just about everything about this keyboard seemed perfect compared to my previous keyboard.
Day two of using this keyboard, I was playing a game and about 30 minutes in, I hear the disconnect sound from my computer and also notice that the default light pattern on the keyboard stopped moving and pressing any key on the board did not do anything. When I went to click the reset button, nothing happened, so I had to power down my PC. To my surprise, the keyboard lights still stayed on even though the PC was powered off, so I unplugged the keyboard and let it sit for 30 min. After I plugged everything in and powered up my PC, everything worked fine for the rest of the day.
Day three, everything that happened in day two was happening every 10 minutes of using the keyboard, making it unusable. Now I know that this is very unusual looking at all of the other reviews, but it is still upsetting.
I have reached out to massdrop and they are sending me a replacement. Hopefully the new one works like its suppose to, and if it does, I'll update this review.
Update to this review. 3/20/2019
They actually sent me the replacement before I sent in the defective keyboard which was nice (because I threw out the old box it was mailed in), and they also covered the cost of the return label which I can't complain about.
I have had the new keyboard for a week now with no issues what so ever. Despite having to go through the exchange process, their customer support was very helpful and the process was very smooth. I am happy I have a working keyboard because this board is gorgeous!
I know defects do happen and because I got one that was defective I probably would of updated my review from a 1 star to a 4 star, but because their customer service was flawless, this review definitely deserves the full 5 stars.
After owning this for a year the keyboard is just falling apart. The lights are going out specific keys are breaking. My k key double and triple presses, my ctrl key only works sometimes. I kept it very clean manually taking all the key caps off and cleaning it every other month. I contacted support on these issues and I was told I'm out of luck since its past warranty. Wont be buying another one.
Just such a versatile keyboard. It’s got a great weight to it, you can tell the design quality is right up there and it’s portable. I use it for work, take it into the office and can’t imagine using standard equipment anymore.
I've always been a fan of the drop keyboards, especially the alt, but I always found it to be a bit too expensive for what it offers. However, during this sale, it's actually a decent deal, and I would 100% recommend this keyboard. The fact that it's also a hot swap makes it easy to throw in any switch you like. I put in some holy pandas that I lubed, and I have been loving this keyboard. Tip: try to fill it up with some foam, whether it's the kit from a drop or just some foam cutouts that you make. Also, the tape mod made a huge difference in the sound.
I mostly purchased this keyboard for the nice, firm switches - I have some sensory impairments in my right side that make it hard to tell how hard I'm resting my fingers on keys, and I accidentally activate keys regularly. The keys here are fairly resistant to those accidental keystrokes.
The keyboard itself is... OK. Not my favorite style, but it works just fine. I think I prefer TKL over this profile, but that's on me and I didn't dock this anything for that.
Great compact keyboard. The LEDs work well and look great. The keycaps are basic but easily swappable if that's what you want. Only works with 3-pin switches.
Well $h1t, original and replacement ALT Drop boards are now paperweights.
I want to give this board 4 stars, customer support was nice enough to honor my warranty a bit past the 1 year mark when the first one had multiple keys stop working suddenly. It also suffered from random disconnects & LEDs turning off, requiring a power cycle, typically multiple times a day.
The replacement lasted just 2.5yrs, and yet again multiple keys have just stopped working. After looking at reviews I quickly located ~15 customers that are suffering the same failure, many right around the same time frame. It would appear there is a manufacturer defect being ignored by support which is very disheartening given the cost of this board.
I've a bad taste in my mouth after all the time & money spent modding this keeb only to end up with another dead $200 keyboard. Case is awesome, keycaps solid, stabs suck, sound meh until you add foam, PCB is a POS. Don't recommend.
